Spoke Counts Used in Our Testing

1.) Rims such as XNG!, Corina, or Zipp 440: All rims were built into wheels using 18 wire spokes
2.) Wheels such as Compagnolo Shamal or Trek Rolf with wire spoke: The lowest offered by the manufacturer.
3.) Wheels such as Specialized or Spinergy with composite spokes: Manufacturers' Design.

Comparison Based Testing / Comparison Based Results

Our comparative tests do not relate to an industry standard such as helmet testing does. No industry standard has been established for high performance wheels and rims such as these. All models sold as rims were built into wheels using identical hubs and radically laved spokes when possible (spoke tension = 125 kg or 275 lbs at 75°F) The tires used were Continental 19 mm GP tubular or Continental 19 mm Grand Prix Kevlar beaded clinchers. The tires were pressurized with nitrogen to 10 bar or 145 psi at 75°F.

Aerodynamic Data
We acknowledge tat tare data representing greater than 10% of the total drag introduces tremendous potential for disputable results. Due to the very low drag of ANY bicycle wheel the tare of the fixture used in any test method will typically exceed 10% of the total drag. All results should be interpreted in a relative manner. The three disk wheels represented in this chart are included to allow for the normalization of our results with other wind tunnel tests.
