GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The losses of safety LeRoy Butler and linebacker Nate Wayne have left a huge hole in the Green Bay Packers' run defense.
It's something the Packers (10-4) know they must fix if they want to make more than a cameo appearance in the playoffs.
"The tight end motion and the back motion have given us some trouble," defensive end Vonnie Holliday said. "We're not exactly on top of our game. What we need to do this week is get into the meeting room and get that fixed."
Defensive tackle Santana Dotson concurred: "With the tight end and back motion, your gap responsibilities change. I'm not saying that affects us not having Nate and LeRoy on the field. Then again, it is an issue."
Butler was lost for the season when he broke his left shoulder blade Nov. 18 against Atlanta. Wayne has been out since breaking a small bone in his back against Chicago on Dec. 9.
The Packers gave up 168 yards rushing to Jamel White in a 30-7 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, a week after surrendering 142 yards to Tennessee's Skip Hicks, another backup who had a breakout game against Green Bay.
"We've got to recognize formations and we've got to stay in our gaps," Butler said. "I think we get a little nosy and maybe get a little lackadaisical if that guy back there is not a Pro Bowler. It's human nature."
