Formatting
(disk) -
When you format
a disk, you set it up to accept data. Formatting a disk will effectively
erase everything on it, so only do it if the information on the disk
is expendable.
I've found that
if I have a disk that isn't behaving itself (i.e. trouble accessing
stuff) that a re-format can sometimes bring it back from the dead.
