The
Walk of Fame is a veritable chronological history of the
Hollywood-based entertainment Industry. In order to honor
individuals behind the camera as well as the most famous
personalities, the Walk of Fame contains many stars
dedicated to the men and women who contributed to the
greatness that was and is Hollywood. The official nomination period is announced in the Hollywood Entertainment trade publications and a news release is disseminated to the Los Angeles area print and broadcast media. This year's deadline for all nominations is Friday, May 30, 2003. Nomination of an individual or group does not automatically result in approval for a star on the Walk of Fame. Although the Walk of Fame Committee does not reject a substantial nomination, it may take several consecutive nominations before a nominee is finally selected to receive a star. All artists nominated are carefully and objectively evaluated by the Walk of Fame Committee. The Committee meets once a year and selects about twelve stars that are to be dedicated the following year. Those not selected the first year will automatically have their applications re-submitted for review the following year. Posthumous awards require a five-year waiting period. When nominating an individual or group, the sponsor must submit the nominees qualifications (in the particular category) as well as contributions to the community and/or civic-oriented participation. The application must also be accompanied by a biography (no more than 10 pages) and photograph of the nominee. Non-returnable samples of the nominees work may also be submitted (eg. a music CD for the recording category). After the Walk of Fame Committee has made its selections, the Chambers Board of Directors also vote to approve the star and then for a final vote, the names are submitted to the City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works Department. The sponsorship fee is $15,000.* The Committee does not accept signature petitions, postcards or letters. All nominations must be forwarded to the Walk of Fame Committee, c/o Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, 7018 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood, CA, 90028 by May 31, 2002. * Sponsorship fee subject to change.
