Mesora diary
Keyes' fourth day in Israel

By Connie Hair

Thursday, August 1, 2002

It was a glorious day today in Israel. Our first full day here without a bombing of innocents by radical Islamists! It is difficult to wrap your mind around the constant threat of attack that looms over Israel on a day-to-day basis as people go about their daily lives. When you walk the streets of Jerusalem, it is beyond comprehension that many times and many days have held forth terrorists exploding bombs and killing people as they walked the streets just as you are doing.

First I'd like to apologize for the lack of pictures of our opening events of the day, and more extensive coverage of our tour of Old Jerusalem. A large portion of the pictures from the day somehow disappeared during the upload.

We began the day with a stroll to the King David Hotel . . . [Click for more]

Day three of Keyes' Israel visit

Wednesday, July 31, 2002

It is a sad day here in Jerusalem as another bombing has taken the lives of 7 students at Hebrew University today, wounding 70 more, 9 critically.

We started the day at the Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem, visiting the victims of earlier suicide bombings, their families and their doctors. I have chosen to withhold their names.

The first young man we visited is 17 years old. Several months ago, he and another man recognized a suicide bomber entering a building and put their bodies between the bomber and others. The terrorist looked at them and smiled his wicked smile and detonated the bomb. The other man did not survive. This young man was severely injured and was not expected to survive. He has no recollection of the bombing. His mother is at his side daily. We spoke to her at length in an on-camera interview.

What strikes at your heart when talking to the family members is the way in which the entire families' lives have forever been changed by cold and calculated acts of evil perpetrated upon innocent people going about their daily lives.

The second young man we visited is 14 years old . . . [Click for more]

Day two of Keyes' visit to Israel

Today was a most enlightening day spent with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on the border between Gaza and Egypt.

We started with a drive to Gaza. That drive showed us a wonder. The deserts of Israel have been

turned into gardens by the ingenuity and brilliance of the irrigation systems that the Israeli people have built in this arid land. It is astonishing to see the crops growing in abundance along the roadsides in the middle of the desert! We saw corn, melons, cotton and sunflowers in profusion.

Then came the stark contrast of the Arab-controlled lands. Theirs is a desert wasteland, with garbage and debris piled up everywhere. And the stench of human waste is overwhelming. The beaches along the sea in the Arab-controlled area reeked of human waste, rotting fish, and garbage piled on the beaches. It was truly shocking.

We picked up an Israeli soldier . . . [Click for more]

DR. ALAN KEYES:
I decided to come to Israel because one cannot know what is going on in the region without being on the ground and to see things personally in order for the facts to be forcibly impressed on my mind.

Also because the future of this region is of interest to many because of ties culturally, historically and as human beings.

Peace cannot be purchased at any price. It is becoming clearer that it is far more difficult to achieve a durable peace than originally thought . . . [Click for more]

Alan Keyes' first day in Israel

Ambassador Keyes sends his greetings from Jerusalem.

We had a very full first day in Israel. The morning started with a breakfast and press conference for the Israeli and foreign media in Jerusalem. The media had many questions about how Americans perceive Israel's war on terror in comparison to America's war on terror. As you have all heard the Ambassador do many times, he walked the media through the logic of the moral principle which undergirds the global war on terror. America and Israel are united in the struggle to defeat those who have crossed the line that sustains the hope of peace between the peoples of the world. By denying the common humanity and dignity that all men share, such men are the common enemies of humanity. That was the message. And that message resonated throughout the day in every meeting and interview.

Next, the Ambassador had a private meeting with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon at his residence . . . [Click for more]

Keyes vs. MSNBC Over Israel

July 13, 2002
By Paul Bedard
 2002 USNews.com

For MSNBC execs, dropping Alan Keyes is Making Sense from the primetime schedule was a no-brainer: Fox and CNN were killing Keyes in the 10-11 p.m. slot. But when they replaced him with Ashleigh Banfield, no O'Reilly or Donahue herself, his Jewish supporters began to mutter that TV's No. 1 pro-Israel host was being axed for his views. That beef is going national now that he has refused to take another slot and is essentially fired.

He can't talk, choked by a contractual gag order . . . [Click for more]

More evidence of MSNBC bias in scrapping of Keyes
MSNBC Hires Pro-Palestinian Producer for Donahue

MSNBC has hired FAIR's Jeff Cohen to be a senior producer of Donahue's new show. In addition to acting as the show's senior producer, Cohen will also be appearing on MSNBC each weekday afternoon as an "on-air commentator."

Cohen founded Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting in 1986. He stepped down from FAIR's board of directors in May 2002, when he was hired by MSNBC. (See Cohen's bio.)

FAIR favors the Palestinian viewpoint, particularly in its "action alerts" and "media advisories" dealing with the Middle East. [Click for more]

MSNBC is not "Making Sense"

by Rabbi Moshe Ben-Chaim
Founder, Mesora.org

It's just another afternoon...Arafat's twisted mind calmly decides to hire more terrorists to assemble another dozen deadly bombs. Where will they strike tomorrow with their rat-poisoned nails? At unsuspecting shoppers in some Israeli mall? Or perhaps, a school bus stop in some remote, unguarded town. With such force, these bombs and projectiles rip the human body apart like paper, infecting us, if it doesn't kill us. Israeli and American civilians and children now face life without limbs, the inability to walk, and permanent disfigurement. One cannot start to imagine facing such a tragic reality. Our worst nightmares could not paint such horror. Israelis must face a new life, if only they heal physically, and psychologically. To protect the innocent, Israel continues to defend itself against Arafat's militant, homicide bombers.

New evidence surfaces . . . [Click for more]

Cost of judicial tyranny
Pledge of Allegiance ruling reveals long chain of judicial abuse

Reaction to the federal court ruling that the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance are unconstitutional has revealed not only a national consensus that the decision is wrong, but a national disposition simply to defy it.

The controversy presents two strong challenges to America. [Click for more]

This week's RenewAmerica Forum
Tackling the Threat of Terrorism

No sooner had the dust settled at Ground Zero than some national leaders--Democrat and Republican alike--began to caution Americans that we must be willing to give up some of our basic liberties in order to prevent further acts of terrorism. Some of these leaders obviously based their view on a popular premise that all large, sophisticated, orderly societies must be willing to trade individual rights for collective security in order to survive--and 9/11 simply gave them a pretext for invoking that belief.

Just as swiftly on the other hand, many vocal observers noted that if American citizens were willing to sacrifice their rights and freedoms . . . [Join us at the Forum]

MESSAGE FROM ALAN KEYES

Welcome to RenewAmerica.us, and to the community we are building here of Americans determined to make our nation worthy again of the gifts we have received from Providence, and from our Founders. Everything I have done in my public life has rested on the truth that, in America, it is the people who make good things happen, because it is the people who have the Founding principles of America most deeply in their hearts. RenewAmerica.us is dedicated to the vision of a nation renewed by the labor of its common citizens, working together with intelligence and determination.

Working together, we can restore our people's confidence in their ability to govern themselves wisely and well. We can remind the American people that our Founders made no mistake when they wrote that God created us all equal in dignity. Working together, we can begin to remember what it is like for a free people to live together as fellow citizens, as friends, as a free people, under God.

The resources available on this carefully and wisely constructed website are intended as a catalyst for the real engine of reform in America:  the principled energy you bring to the job, and are willing to share with others. Please join me in making RenewAmerica.us the center of your participation in the renewal of American liberty.
