Viva all the way...
VIVA IS the final result of some rigorous talent search across the country, After being grilled by the judges - Sandeep Chowta, Shubha Mudgal, Sushma Reddy, and Manish Malhotra - and groomed by the finest talent in India in the field of music and fashion - the five girls have just released their debut album. Here's a potted bio of the Viva girls - Seema, Mahua, Anushka, Pratichee, and Neha - and their album.
Anushka, 18, is the youngest, but is already serious about a career in music. Having put her class 12 exams on the backseat (only temporarily, we hope!) she plans to pursue her "pop star" dreams... Let's hope she make's it big. Mahua is the bubbly one and stands out in the music video as well. Hooked on to R&B; and hip-hop, she has formal training in Hindustani classical music. While Seema and Pratichee have already graduated, Neha is still in college doing her sociology honours. Nevertheless, she is mature and serious when it comes to business. She believes that will power, thoughtfulness, and dedication make up the mantra for success.
Pratichee loves socialising and has travelled all over India, and has six years training in Classical music while Seema is the fun-loving, free-spirited kind of person. She loves listening to both Indian and Western popular music and has briefly been part of a local band in Pune. "We maybe from varied backgrounds, but it's our unity which is crucial if we have to succeed as a band," they say in unison.
Their debut album, Viva (Times Music, Rs. 65) has been released, and is selling like hot cakes. The first single, "Hum naye geet sunayein", is a gem. Epitomising the band and its confidence, the song, composed by Shankar, Ehsaan, and Loy, is catchy and being supported by a slick video, it won't be too long before it reaches the top of the charts. Seven other tracks make up the album, which are composed by Raju Singh, Sandeep Chowta, Jatin-Lalit, and many more. Javed Akhtar adds the classy touch to the whole product. Well, it seems, "Viva ka band baj gaya, ab kiska bajega?"
