One of the easiest ways to make money is through crafting
weapons and armor. Go to the mine, get some ore, take it to the forge
and make metal bars, take them to the smithy and make some items,
and voila - instant money. Better yet, once you gain levels, you can
save money by not having to buy your gear at the store.
Iron (35): 15 Silver (40): 20 Coal (50): 30 Gold (65): 40 Mithril (80): 55 Adamantite (95): 70 Runite (125): 85 Smithing levels and XP per bar smelted are as follows:
Iron (1 iron ore, 50% chance of success): level 15, 12.5 XP Silver (1 nugget): level 20, 12 XP Steel (1 iron ore + 2 coal): level 30, 17.5 XP Gold (1 nugget): level 40, 22.5 XP Mithril (1 mithril ore + 4 coal): level 50, 30 XP Adamantite (1 adamantite ore + 6 coal): level 70, 37-40 XP Runite (1 runite ore + 8 coal): level 85, 50 XP. Gems are a special case. They require Crafting to be cut. See the Crafting page for more details. Gold and Silver can be smelted into bars (requires 40 smithing for gold, 20 for silver), but then you need Crafting to make it into jewelry. You can obtain gems from any monster that drops treasure (1/282 chance) or any rock that gives ore (same chance). There are several mines scattered around Runescape, and each has different ores that can be mined there: Barbarian Village: There is a small mine here, and you can also find a pickaxe here. You can mine tin and coal. Chasm Mine: This is a large chasm due north
of Al Kharid. Here you can mine tin, copper, iron, silver, coal, gold,
mithril and adamantium, but it is not recommended for newbies, since
scorpions always appear to harass the miners.

Crandor Isle Mine: Crandor Isle is the island
where you can find the dragon, and can only be found by doing the
Dragon Slayer Quest. You can mine iron, coal, mithril, gold, and adamantite
here. Map.
Dwarf Mine: A large mine run by dwarves in
the new kingdom, inside Ice Mountain. You can mine clay, copper, tin,
iron, silver, coal, gold, mithril, and adamantium here. Map.
Edgeville Mine: It is located in the Edgeville
Dungeon. You can find copper, tin, iron, silver, coal, gold, mithril
and adamantium ores here. The room where the rocks are is inhabited
by hobgoblins and skeletons with scimitars, making mining there a
dangerous proposition. Map.
Hobgoblin Mine: An open-air mine located in
the Wilderness. You can find iron, coal, mithril, and adamantite ores
here.
Ice Giants' Dungeon: A small underground mine
located at the far southern part of Asgarnia. It is the only place
you can find blurite ore, which is a necessary item in a quest; there
is also one iron rock here. Map.
Lava Maze Mine: The only place you can find
the fabled Runite ore. There are two rocks just north of the entrance
to the mine.
Skeleton Mine: An open-air mine in Level 9
of the Wilderness. This mine is all coal rocks (about 25 of them),
and has level 25 Skeletons.
Map.
Varrock Mine: A large mine SE of Varrock, just
north of Al Kharid. Here can be found iron, tin, and copper ores.
Map.
Varrock Mine II: Another large mine midway
between Varrock and the Barbarian Village, just north of the Champion's
Guild. You can find copper, tin, clay, iron, silver, and coal here.
Map.
Volcano Mine: A small mine (four rocks) located
in the Karamja volcano, near the entrance. All four rocks are gold,
and are guarded by level 25 skeletons.
Wilderness Mine: A small open mine located
near a small village in the SW corner of Asgarnia. You can mine clay,
tin, copper, iron, and gold here. Map.
The chart below is listed by smithing level; it lists what you can make at each level, along with stats for those items. Not all levels have something new, so I have included only those where you gain a new skill. Numbers in parentheses are predictions. Thanks to Lightning for the new Steel and Mithril levels, and Lotta Might for all the XP values.
This table, as you can see, is not complete. As you
also saw on the list of mines, it does not include any Members only
mines, as I have yet to find and test all of them. If you have a map
of anything not here, We would be very thankful.
