Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames Vice-President & General Manager Craig Button announced today, following an arbitrator’s decision, defenceman Denis Gauthier has a new contract agreement with the club. As per club policy, terms and conditions of the deal were not disclosed.

“Our goals from the outset was to have everyone under contract for the start of training camp and prepared to compete,” said Button. “Denis is a valued member our team. Having him under contract for the next two years and showing the same progress, that he demonstrated this past season, will contribute to our team’s success.”

During the 2001-02 season appeared in 66 games with the Flames posting 13 points (5 goals, 8 assists), and 91 penalty minutes. The Montreal, Quebec native posted career highs in games played (66), points (13), goals (5), assists (8), penalty minutes (91) while leading the Flames with four short-handed points (1 goal, 3 assists). Gauthier was second on the team in hits (112) and tied for third in +/- (+9). The 6’2” 224 lbs. rearguard has played in 232 NHL career games posting 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) and 303 penalty minutes. Gauthier was the Flames first choice, 20th overall, in the 1995 Entry Draft.
