Explore the castles of England, Scotland and Wales

We love exploring castles and are lucky to live in Great Britain which has such a large number of them. They range from famous and easy to find ones to almost forgotten and hidden ruins. We've made this website to make it easier for you to find and visit these castles and to provide you with some background information about them. We continually add more castles to the site, but as we personally visit each castle it may take a while before a particular castle is featured.

Use the Find a Castle facility to search for castles in Britain using the interactive maps or the
A-Z alphabetical listing. Each castle has a description and photographs, and to help you plan a visit we provide information about when it is open, how much it costs to enter and what facilities it has, as well as directions and a link to a map. We keep the visitor information as up-to-date as possible, but if you know of any inaccuracies please let us know.

The History of Castles section gives a short overview of the origin of castles, the development of medieval castles, and the eventual decline of castles. There is also an extensive glossary of castle terminology.

The General Information section includes information about this site, details about organisations that maintain historic properties, and links to other sources of information about castles, heritage and tourism in Britain.
