LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS KILLED AND ASSAULTED, 2001

Today, the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR) released its annual publication, Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted, 2001. The UCR announced that 142 of the Nation's law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty in 2001. Of the officers killed, 72 deaths were the result of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. In the last five years, there has been a 1.4% decrease in the number of officers murdered.
