Charting the Information Universe
13th National Cataloguing Conference
13-15 October 1999
On behalf of the organising committee, I invite you to participate in the 13th National Cataloguing Conference being held at the Carlton Crest Hotel, Brisbane, 13-15 October 1999.
Under the theme, Charting the Information Universe, the conference will provide the opportunity to explore the role played by cataloguing and other methods of information organisation in contemporary resource discovery. The effects of technological
change on cataloguing principles and practice will be the focus of discussion. A range of other topics will also be covered, from both traditional library cataloguing and related areas of activity, such as metadata creation and knowledge management.
The theme of the conference has been chosen to convey the idea that cataloguers, and other information organisers, are the map-makers of the information universe, making possible the effective discovery and navigation of information resources.
A feature of the program will be a keynote presentation on how technological change affects the objects to be described, and the systems used to manage bibliographic data. Additional themes will be explored by other speakers and by participation in panel
and workshop sessions.
A trade display featuring the latest developments in products and services will be held in conjunction with the conference.
We look forward to your company in Brisbane where we will work together to develop a vision for cataloguing and information organisation in the 21st century.
