The selected works for WEB3DART 2003 will be available on-line, and for the first time as a major feature of an international exhibition of 3D virtual ‘in real space’ in the galleries at Cornerhouse, Manchester. Lab3D will provide an access point to connect the public in Manchester with an online public, and to visitors at media and art spaces across the UK and internationally.

Lab3D presents interactive installation works by Squidsoup (UK), John Klima (USA), Melinda Rackham (Australia), Tamiko Thiel/Zara Housmond (Germany/USA), Michael Pinsky (UK) and Feng Mengbo (Beijing). A symposium, in collaboration with Media Training Northwest, will raise issues around 3D, online games, and new media art practice. Jurors for Web3D Art 2003, including Masaki Fujihata, will be present to discuss the criteria and international interest in the virtual environments of the 3D community.

During June 2003, empyre, a moderated international mailing list, with focus on new media art topics, will host a discussion on 3D online work: http://www.subtle.net/empyrean/empyre

The outstanding success of the 1999 VRML ART show in Paderborn; it’s presentation in Berlin at the Transmediale; the 2000 VRML-ART Expo at the SIGGRAPH ART SHOW in New Orleans; it’s presentation at The Computer Art Festival in Maribor, Slovenia; and WEB3D ART 2002 at The Media Centre of ICA London have created a positive anticipation to the selection for WEB3DART 2003.
