Johnny Bench on the Bob & Tom Show talking about why today's players are hitting so many home runs.

"They work out all year long. When I played working out meant putting on a rubber suit during Spring Training to try and lose 15 pounds. It's a wonder nobody died. I guess we didn't use enough drugs."

Your claim check, sir

Tonight is the opening game of the 2003 baseball season. That seems funny, since we had snow flurries today.

Watching the Rangers-Angels game reminds me that announcers often check their brains at the door. ESPN's Jon Miller, an outstanding announcer, just said that he thought the Pittsburgh Pirates were a "sleeper" team and Joe Morgan immediately chimed in that he thought they had a chance to make the playoffs.

Please, gentlemen. The Pirates will have a good season if they manage to win half of the games. Talk of the playoffs just shows you want to hear yourself speak.
