NBC Rules Wednesday; 'Birds' Premiere Soars for WB

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002

NBC kept its front-runner status Wednesday night, while viewers flocked to premiere of "Birds of Prey" on The WB and "The Bachelor" on ABC.

For the evening, NBC averaged a 10.4 rating/17 share. ABC posted a 6.9/11, FOX a 6.5/11 and CBS a 5.9/10. The WB averaged 5.4/8 in the metered markets, with UPN at 4.3/6.

NBC also held the top spot among adults 18-49 with a 5.4 rating. ABC, 4.8, was second, followed by FOX, 3.4, and CBS, 3.1.

ABC led the way at 8 p.m. with "My Wife and Kids," 8.0/13, and "George Lopez," 7.1/11. CBS took second with "60 Minutes II," finishing just in front of NBC's "Ed," 7.2/12. FOX's split coverage of both major league baseball championship series was fourth. In the metered markets, UPN's "Enterprise," 5.4/8, bested The WB's "Dawson's Creek," 4.4/7.

At 9 p.m., NBC took control with "The West Wing," 10.7/17. "The Bachelor," 8.5/13, was a strong second overall and actually won the hour among adults 18-49. The WB's "Birds of Prey" debuted to a 6.4/9. FOX's baseball coverage beat "The Amazing Race" on CBS, 5.3/8. "The Twilight Zone" brought up the rear for UPN.

"Law & Order," 13.5/23, blew away the 10 p.m. competition. FOX was second at 6.7/11, with CBS' "Presidio Med," 5.3/9, in third ahead of ABC's "MDs," 4.6/8.
