Paul Williams has become the seventh professional darts player to decide this week to compete in the PDC's Skol World Championship as opposed to the Embassy. Williams, who has risen at a remarkable rate through the PDC ranks this year, was initially named as a replacement by the BDO for one of the six players named yesterday, who have turned down their invitations to the Lakeside event in favour of the Skol. His decision to compete in the Skol is yet another sign that the PDC's tournament is seen as the more prestigious by the players and leaves the BDO searching for a 'replacement for their replacement'. Williams, who picked up crucial points at last weekend's Vauxhall Open to secure his place, qualifies in 31st spot in the PDC rankings and completes the 'invited' line-up. A qualifier will take the 32nd place in this year’s Skol, via a play-off on December 8th open to all members of the Professional Darts Players Association.
