ISU Comment On U.S. Anti-Doping Agency Case

The International Skating Union (ISU) has noted recent press reports about a legal case regarding the alleged refusal by figure skater Ms Kyoko Ina (USA) to undergo a drug test. Some press reports incorrectly state that Ms Kyoko Ina may face a suspension imposed by the ISU.

The ISU understands that the attempt to conduct the out of competition test was made by the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) on their initiative and without any involvement from the ISU. The USADA is not acting on behalf of the ISU in conducting national out of competition tests.

The ISU is not involved in national out of competition tests. Any sanction decided following such a test would therefore be imposed by the concerned national authorities. Of course, sanctions decided by national authorities are also taken into consideration by the ISU in accordance with ISU Regulations.
