The Plame Game   Thursday, October 02, 2003

A top priority for the US in Iraq is the drafting of a constitution. Bush administration Officials are pushing to have the draft complete within the next year, but as the constitution in Afghanistan reaches fruition two years after the war there, many uncertainties lie in store. Constitutional expert Noah Feldman examines this issues of nation-building. Also, months have passed since a columnist uncovered Valerie Plame as a CIA agent based on a "leak" from the White House. Democrats are calling for an independent counsel investigation, but what media issues does this raise?

The Fear Factor   Wednesday, October 01, 2003

Benjamin Barber argues that the McWorld is not a democracy. He accuses the Bush administration of confusing free-market ideology -- sold on the sizzle of brand-marketing -- with the spread of democratic ideals. Barber is the author of Fear's Empire: War, Terrorists, and Democracy. According to Barber: "The two axial principals of our time – tribalism and globalism – clash at every point except one: they may both be threatening to democracy."
