Now that I'm a little more lucid..
I'm really suprised how many hits this site is getting (well over 3k in 3 weeks), especially considering I'm not even on a search engine yet. Wow. Apparently a lot of people want to read about my life or something, and I feel compelled to update my blog more. Ok, well, here goes.
I got a msg from some guy on EFNet last week, but I was afk at the time. Apparently he works for superb (my hosting company) and he found my site. Heh, at least he didn't say anything about me using IRC. I think I'm not supposed to use IRC, according to their AUP, but the wording was somewhat unclear. Most hosting providers (Interland included) only require that you not run an IRC server, but clients aren't mentioned. Oh well. If they have a problem with it, they'll let me know, I'm sure. Other than that bit of wording the AUP, I'm totally loving superb so far. I got 1106KB/s from work to my server at superb. Fuqn amazing. The fact that they installed Freebsd 5.1 AND dropped my setup fee just amazes me. The sales guy and the guy in the NOC that I talked to both were like "um, you work for Interland? And why are you hosting with us again?" It's not that I dislike where I work. I just want a FreeBSD server, and we don't offer that. I'm loving superb, so that's fine with me. Even their support site is cool. They actually tell you what is going on with their network. I don't think they know how to be a hosting company. They give customers far too much information, and they try too hard to please. I've already got one of my friends going there, and I'm about to refer two more. Superb better love me, too :P
Anyways, I'm at work and I forgot a bunch of stuff at home, and Chad is downstairs to take me out for food...so I'll update more later. :)

I got my new laptop! :)
Cute 'lil powerbook g4. It's taking a bit of getting used to 'cause I've never used a mac before, but Jaguar seems quite nice. The laptop itself is getting a bit hot after a hour or two, but not nearly as bad as the Vaio was. Anyways, I'll take some laptop pr0n later.
off to play with iTunes!

Headache. Pounding, aching, blinding pain. sigh.
Hopefully I'll be getting a new laptop this week. Mine is the definition of ghetto. If I pick it up and set it back down, it freezes. When I first boot it, I have to bang on the sides with my fists to get it to get past the BIOS post. Ugh, don't even get me started. It's aonly a PII 300. I'm going to be buying a powerbook from one of my coworkers, and it's a sweet laptop. I've never had an apple before, but as Aria said - "Once you go Mac, you never go back." Ummm...yeah.
I am such the code monkey lately. Gooberssh is doing fairly well. I updated the screenshots to show the new GUI. The GUI isn't totally finished, there's a few rough spots I want to clean up, but for the most part what you see is what you get. I'm guessing it's going to be another week or two before it's finished. Due to my home DSL being down for the past week, I've only been coding at work. Thankfully, there haven't been many catastrophes, so I've managed to get quite a bit done.

I put up pics of Nathan's birthday party here. Yes, I know the domain name is unfitting. I'll put it elsewhere and make the design less than ick and size down the pictures later. Right now I'm just trying to get it up and available for the relatives.

Yes, my kid knows how to say that now. rock.
His birthday is tomorrow, so Chad and I went out shopping today. Got him a bunch of stuff that he probably won't be able to use for a little while. He's a smart kid though, he'll figure it out. I can't believe Nathan is going to be 2 years old. Fuck, I'm old.
I'm not coding today. I am forcing myself to stay far, far away from my computer until tomorrow. I'm actually at Chad's work right now using his computer, and that doesn't count. Last night I had nightmares about pointers going to the wrong places, chasing me around, just not working. I'm getting in a little too deep, I think. Too focused or something. My life has started revolving around vim and gooberssh, so I'm taking a step back for 24 hours. It's hard, because I just read some really cool stuff yesterday about how glib handles a few data structures and algorithems, and I was going to impliment that in my code. I also had some funky memory allocation stuff I wanted to try out. It's so odd. What once used to be a black hole finally makes sense to me. I'm enjoying myself a bit too much, methinks. I am a systems administrator, not a coder. Never a coder. bleh.
I'm about to stop by my work and pick up my paycheck, much needed after that little Toys 'R Us shopathon. I still have to go home and wrap all these presents, and then I've got to go buy Nathan a nice outfit to wear to his birthday party tomorrow. We were going to throw something big at Six Flags White Water, but we decided to just do a small thing at Chucky Cheeses. Man, I remember back in the day when they were Showbiz Pizza. Their pizza may suck ass (or so I've been told), but I loved them when I was a kid. I think Nathan will be the same. I'll be sure to post pics tomorrow night.
Ciao!

sektie: i still don't know how i stayed awake that long without chemical help.
datule: I was gonna let you sleep in the living room since you seemed so out of it
datule: do you remember asking me about your code?
sektie: i had nightmares about pointers
sektie: i have no idea if i asked you anything.
datule: "Did you do something to my code? My legs hurt"
sektie: hahaha
datule: yeah, I had a good laugh over that
datule: I thought you were saying "coat" at first

After messing around with the GTK module for perl (and the documentation sucks so hard, btw), I decided to be adventurous. Yes, I went for GTK in c. This is after, like, years of not coding in c. Gtk in c is such a breeze. :) The documentation makes it all really easy to follow. Hell, I have more problems with linked lists than I do making an event handler for a button. Since it's so easy to code with, I'm starting to get all kindsa neat ideas to make my life simpler while I'm at work. An ssh frontend is just the beginning!
I'm finally home, after about 25 hours of being awake. Many of those hours were spent shopping, so I'm more than a little tired. I'll probably go to sleep soon, but I'm still feeling a little hyper from the adderall I took around 9PM. With all the drama that went on, I'm still mostly distracted (and a little pissed off), so I didn't get as much coding done as I would like. I don't even think going to old navy and buying a new shirt would fix things. No more shopping for me for a while, at least until next month.
I am so in love with my new hoodie!! It's white and has a blue Roxy logo on it. It's way cute. I wore it to work tonight. I know it's August, but it's still really cold inside the NOC. Usually by morning if I've worn my day wear (strappy gap tank top, jeans) my fingernails are an interesting shade of blue. Almost matches my hair.
norma went down three times last night. Pain in my ass. Coldfusion keeps dying on the thing, which ends up killing apache as well. I really hate these solaris boxes. I'd like them if they were stable, but for how often they have services restarted, they might as well be NT 4. I know it's a long and complicated process to get these servers patched and stable and happy, but I really wish they would start on it. Hell, I wish I had the authority to do it myself. No one seems to realize it's a problem that 10 freaking sun boxes have apache freak out several times a night, though. As long as customers don't complain...well, you know the line.
I bought EQOA yesterday, and I am very impressed. I'm not sure what it is (other than the graphics), but I really like the way they handled the game play. It seems a lot different from the PC version. I only got a chance to play it for 15 minutes before I went to work, but I got my Elf Druid (they did away with High Elves, and Wood Elves are just called Elves now) up to a level 3. yay! If you play, drop me a line. I don't like grouping with people out of the blue; I prefer people I know (even if it is only online). Most people don't know how to properly group anyways. I actually saw a group of 4 clerics wandering around once. They asked me to join. Eh, no thanks.

Let's get one thing straight here.
I deleted my last entry. I don't believe in deleting blog entries. I did this for one reason, and one reason only: Chad. Yes, Sherrod, I still hate you. But I'll play nice. Chad, you didn't follow my advice, so you have no pity from me. I do this simply to keep the peace, but I WILL NOT do this again. You ask me to compromise myself by restraining my thoughts. This is my fucking blog. I'll write what I goddamn please, and if you don't like it, don't read it. If you don't like what people say to you, ignore them. Develop a thicker skin, or you'll never make it through life.
My earlier blurb was a result of built up frustration and anger which I did not allow myself to vent until now. I am not sorry I wrote it, and I am not sorry if it hurt your feelings. Deal with it.

Looks like freebsdgirl.com is mostly up and operational now. I added in the rant functionality, but I'm going to change parts of it later on, I think. For now it works, it's happy, so bitch away.
I still gotta figure out something to do with daemonporn.com. It's a cute domain name and all, but other than email, I'm not using it. Someone suggested finding pictures of hot chicks wearing daemon horns. heh. Yeah, right.
I think I may have pissed off some people at work Weds morning when I left. I had to leave on time, which meant at 8 AM. Usually I don't get out of there until 8:30 or 9 AM, and that doesn't really bother me and I never really complain about it. I understand that shit happens, traffic sucks, people get sick, the sun is bright, etc. There was a fuqn server rebuild though that we didn't realize we were going to have to do until 7:40. First of all, my back is fucked. I cannot carry a 2U from the back of the south side to the front of the NOC without doing major damage that will put me in bed for 3 days on pain killers. Second of all, that was going to take more than 20 minutes. Chad's grandmother had died, and I had to get home because his mom and sister were about to leave for the airport. It just pisses me off that the _ONE_ time I have to leave something for someone, they get all upset at me. It's not like people never leave stuff for me. God. Grow up.
Anyways, enough of that. Hopefully he'll forget about it or something. I didn't want to have to explain the situation to him because I was running late. The NOC manager knew, and that's enough. He'll get over it eventually.
Chad called from Oklahoma, and apparently his parents are giving him their car. It's only a '89 buick lesabre or something like that, but it's only got 112k miles on it so I'm thinking that after we get Chad's car fixed, we'll sell the buick. I'm not sure how much it's worth because it's so old, but at least it's in really good condition.

Yay! No more icky DSL. I just got this server at this fabulous webhosting company called superbservers. They even installed FreeBSD 5.1 for me and dropped the setup fee. Much love.
Chad's grandmother died so he's off to Oklahoma for a few days, so I'm here all by myself. Nathan is here, but my father is going to be taking him for me. It's been so long since I've had the house all to myself, and what's the first thing I think? "Cool, I'll have time to code now." I suck so bad.
I really need to go get tags for my car. Maybe I'll do that next week. I've even decided on what they are going to say - "BSDGRL". Rock out.
