Soory

(Vignesh - Uma)

He has the looks and the talent, but somehow Vignesh's career graph has never shown a high. The few films he did were medium budgetted, with uninteresting scripts, and lesser known film-makers and heroines. But with his signing 'Soory' it seems as though fortune is smiling on the actor. For, 'Soory' is directed by Selvan who has had his grooming under director Shanker. And Shanker was present on the muhurat day to bless his protege.

'Soory' did have some starting problem. Earlier it was financial hurdles, and then it was the heroine. Manya being substituted by Uma (daughter of actress Sumitra), who had been introduced by Bharatiraja in 'Kadal Pookkal' and has acted in a handful of films since. For comic relief Vadivelu, Vypauri and Damu are also in the cast. Produced by Vijaykumar for 'Srikamatchi Studios', the film has music by Deva, and lyrics by Vairamuthu. Editing is by Suresh Urs, dance choreography by Raju Sundaram and Cool Jayant, stunts arranged by Super Subbarayan and sets designed by Sai Picasse. Vijay Milton cranks the camera.

Shooting is on at locations in Chennai followed by Rameshwaram, Trichy, Mumbai and Kolkata. A scene was shot on Vingnesh, Uma and Chinny Jayant at the 'Udayam Theater', Chennai. Soorya and Pichumuthu go to a theatre to watch a film. Seing the 'Housefull' board, Pichumuthu buys the tickets in black. Meanwhile Rishaba rushes in to join her waiting friends. 'We thought you wouldn't come, so we haven't bought a ticket for you!" say her friends. One of her friends then goes and gets a ticket. When Rishaba learns that it was bought in black, she tears it to pieces, remarking angrily, " Instead of going to school, that boy is selling tickets in black. Tomorrow he'll be committing more serious crimes, and wouldn't we be responsible for turning him into a criminal?" Soorya who watches the scene, tears his own ticket bought in black. Pichumuthu, not amused by this goes to Rishaba and tells her , "Who do you think you are, to go round giving advice? I took all the trouble to get a ticket for my friend. But now after hearing your lecture, he's torn it off!" And Rishaba looks at Soorya in amazement. Vignesh, Uma and Chinny Jayant took part in the scene.

The supporting cast also has Senthil, SPB, Madan Bob, Janavi, Lakshmanan, K.S.Mani, Pandi Ravi, Saravana Kumar, Jayant, Azhagusundaram and Priya. Says the director about the title, "It is from the combination of the names of my hero & heroine, Soorya & Rishaba!"
