On Nov. 17, the leaders of a new movement to protect public display of religion held a press conference at the National Press Club to launch "Save the Ten Commandments: God's Contract With America," a petition drive in support of religious liberty.

The conference was moderated by former Boston Herald media writer and columnist Don Feder. According to Mr. Feder, "This issue is galvanizing America--religious America, conservative America, middle America--like no other issue that I've seen in my lifetime."

The leaders who spoke at the press conference included Rick Scarborough of Vision America, Alan Keyes of the Declaration Foundation, Gary Bauer of American Values, Rabbi Yehuda Levin of Jews for Morality, Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, Janice Crouse of Concerned Women for America, Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, and Jill Farrell of the Free Congress Foundation.

Each leader took turns stressing the need to rein in a runaway judiciary, and called for protection from judges personally antagonistic to religion.

Formal statements were then followed by a question and answer session.
