First details on Atlantis premiere episode
JANUARY 8, 2004

The first plot information on the premiere episode of Stargate Atlantis has surfaced! The episode is tentatively titled "Rising" (or "Rise.") The report also includes details on the spin-off series' regular cast of characters, for which actors are currently being auditioned.

Beware of spoilers for the 2-part premiere in the report below:

Teyla (formerly "Mikala") now has a last name, "Emmagan." Locations in the first episode include Atlantis, Athos city ("Athos" may be the name of the planet), and an alien encampment. The team from Earth is in a distant galaxy far from home, and are looking for something called ZPMs. The Wraith are believed to be aliens that defeated the Ancients long ago (possibly the virus that nearly wiped out the Ancients was no accident).

The inhabitants of the world featured in this episode -- apparently a different world than the one where Atlantis is located, the show's home base -- were once advanced, but when the Wraith attack happened, they where decimated. These are Teyla's people, and they fear to return to the great city their ancestors once inhabited, believing that the Wraith will return. They now live in a primitive state, at least by appearances, but still possess some high-level technology and the knowledge of how to use it. They do not allow themselves to become too advanced, because every few hundred years the Wraith return to "cull their human herd." They believe that if they advance to their previous level, the Wraith will annihilate them completely.

The new series is based in the lost city of Atlantis, in another galaxy. Under the command of Dr. Elizabeth Weir, the team will eventually establish a base in the city, which includes a Stargate. But in the premiere, Atlantis seems to be underwater, or at least at the edge of an ocean, so that a great energy shield must hold back the waters. The team's arrival damages this, forcing them at one point to abandon the city before the shield fails completely. (The episode's title, "Rising," could refer to the eventual destination of the city and the new base.)

Other characters, both regulars and guest characters for the premiere, include Colonel Marshall Sumner (the military commander), Major John Sheppard (a team member, who builds a relationship with the alien Teyla), Lieutenant Aiden Ford (another team member), Bates, (another team member), Wex, Jinto, Halling, and Toran (four of Teyla's people), Dr. Benjamin Ingrim (a scientist), and Grodin (apparently a scientist or engineer, who works with Dr. Ingrim).

Based on previous reports, it appears as though the series regulars for Atlantis include at least Weir, Sheppard, Ingrim, Ford, and Teyla. Though only a major in rank, Sheppard will probably become the commander of the exploratory team after Colonel Sumner meets an ill fate. Weir will likely remain at the Atlantis base, in a role similar to that played by General Hammond on SG-1.

Stargate Atlantis premieres this June on The Sci-Fi Channel, and is expected to air alongside SG-1's eighth season on Friday nights. Keep your chevrons locked on GateWorld for more news!

David DeLuise cast as Carter's love interest
AUGUST 29, 2003

David DeLuise
Image from "BachelorMan"
Yet another DeLuise family member will make an appearance on Stargate SG-1. Actor David DeLuise has been cast as Pete Shannon, a love interest for Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) in the late Season Seven episode "Chimera." (Beware of some minor spoilers for this episode in the story below!)

Tapping talked about the upcoming episode -- a very different role for Major Carter -- in a recent interview with Zap2It. "I've spent the morning naked in bed with a man," Tapping reported. "Let's talk, because it's the first time my character's had sex in seven years. Carter finally gets a boyfriend who does not die, for the first time."

"It's the first time you'll see Carter in some sexy skivvies," the actress continued. "I got to wear skirts and heels, and at the end of the night, this very sexy dress. He takes her out dancing. I just spent the morning naked ... so, a whole new departure for this character."

"As an actress, I'm so sick of Army boots and my P-90. Yet, last Friday, we're shooting all this stuff where I was in frocks and this beautiful dress, and I felt so out of my element. I went, 'If I could do this scene with a P-90, I'd be OK.' I have these smoking 3-inch heels and this dress, and I felt completely vulnerable."

DeLuise has appeared in numerous films and television shows, with notable recurring roles in the short-lived NBC comedy Jesse, and the long-running 3rd Rock from the Sun. He has also made guest appearances on SeaQuest DSV, Lois and Clark, C.S.I., and more

David is the younger brother of SG-1 director, writer and producer Peter DeLuise. Father Dom played the titular character in Season Three's "Urgo," while brother Michael played actor Nick Marlowe ("Colonel Danning") in Season Five's "Wormhole X-Treme!"

Read the complete article, in which Tapping also discusses her character's very personal feelings for Colonel O'Neill (as well as her desire to not be defined by that relationship) at Zap2It. "Chimera" is expected to air in early 2004 on The Sci-Fi Channel.

(Thanks to John for the tip!)

Air Force general talks 'The Lost City'
AUGUST 26, 2003

With the war in Iraq concluded (in a manner of speaking), Air Force Chief of Staff General John P. Jumper will finally make his guest appearance on Stargate SG-1 (story). The general will appear in at least the second half of the 2-part season finale, "The Lost City," according to a report in today's Vancouver Sun.

"They made it easy on me. I get to play myself," Jumper told the paper in an interview on the show's Vancouver, B.C. set. " I just have a few lines in three scenes." He plays himself in a crucial Oval Office meeting with the President, which also includes General Hammond (Don S. Davis).

The report also confirms that actor William Devane will play the fictional President Henry Hayes. A photo from the set at the Air Force's Web site shows Devane (center) and Jumper (right).

Jumper follows his predecessor, chief of staff General Michael E. Ryan, who appeared as himself in a cameo role in Season Four's "Prodigy." Ryan retired in 2001. General Jumper was originally scheduled to appear in an episode filming in April, but the start of conflict in Iraq made him postpone his appearance.

The general also said that Stargate, with its heroic protrayal of U.S. Air Force officers, has inspired some to join the real Air Force. "We have feedback surveys [from recruits] that show people get familiar with the Air Force from the show," he said.

Read the complete article, in which Jumper also praises the show's set designers, at Canada.com. "The Lost City" is expected to air in March on The Sci-Fi Channel.

First info on 'Resurrection' plot
AUGUST 19, 2003

Details are finally here on "Resurrection," the late Season Seven episode penned by series star Michael Shanks ("Daniel Jackson"). Co-star Amanda Tapping ("Samantha Carter") is also set to direct.

Beware of spoilers in the report below! Here's what our anonymous tipster told us:

"SG-1 faces a threat unlike any other when they learn that an Earth scientist, Dr. Kessler, has created a human-Goa'uld hybrid clone. Her name is Anna, and though she appears to be a beautiful young woman, she is no more than a year old. Kessler is (or was) in the employ of the rogue N.I.D., and is the son of a Nazi war criminal.

"Kessler does his best to conceal the truth about his experiments -- and their horrible cost -- when SG-1 comes to investigate. It seems that Anna was created so that the N.I.D. could have access to the Goa'uld genetic memory, but without worrying about a pesky Goa'uld inside her. Instead, the girl suffers from a split personality -- one a good-natured young woman, one the evil and murderdous Goa'uld Sekhmet. She is shocked to learn that, when taking over her body, her Goa'uld personality has killed more than 30 people. Kessler coldly accepts it as necessary, believing that accessing the Goa'uld in her mind can help save Earth.

"Meanwhile, SG-1 learns that the Goa'uld personality has planted a bomb, which is ticking down toward detonation. With help from Kessler, Anna and N.I.D. Agent Malcolm Barrett (last seen in Season Six's "Smoke and Mirrors"), Daniel and Sam must find and defuse the device."

As usual, keep in mind that the information above is based on a working draft of the episode, and is therefore subject to change. "Resurrection" will be one of the season's final episodes to go before cameras, and will air in February or March.

In ancient Egyptian mythology, the bloodthirsty Sekhmet was a goddess of war and divine vengeance. She was called the "Eye of Ra," and was the vengeful aspect of Hathor. Ra sent Sekhmet to kill those mortals who opposed him. Read more at the Encyclopedia Mythica.

Jessica Steen cast as Dr. Theresa Weir
AUGUST 4, 2003

Jessica Steen
Photo by Jeff Katz. Courtesy The Jessica Steen Page
Actress Jessica Steen will appear in SG-1's 2-part season finale -- and may become a regular on Atlantis. The Jessica Steen Page is reporting that the actress has been cast as Dr. Theresa Weir (now confirmed) in "The Lost City."

Weir is a strong possibility to become a regular character on Stargate Atlantis, a spin-off series currently eyeing a summer 2004 premiere date on The Sci-Fi Channel.

The 37-year-old, Toronto-born actress is perhaps best known to science fiction fans as Dr. Julia Heller on NBC's short-lived genre series Earth 2. She has also made appearances in The Practice, Monk, The Outer Limits and Murder One, and in such films as "Armageddon" and "Trial and Error."

Season Seven's 'Inauguration' announced
JULY 28, 2003

The first sketchy info on a late Season Seven episode is finally available! "Inauguration" is currently being penned by co-executive producers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, and rounds out the season's 22 episodes. The episode will likely air in February or early March, before the season finale, "The Lost City." Beware of some minor spoilers below.

Mallozzi mentioned the episode in a chat at AXN this weekend, telling fans that "'Inauguration' will see the return of an old enemy and set up the big, BIG two-part season finale."

Just what does the episode deal with? It's anyone's guess at this point -- but considering that the out-going President of the United States is mentioned in "Heroes" and the newly-elected President appears in "The Lost City," the title "Inauguration" may be telling. Could that "old enemy" be none other than Senator Kinsey, who appears as Vice President in the season finale?

We'll bring you more details on this episode as they become available!

Massive report on 'The Lost City' season finale
JULY 18, 2003

SG-1GateWorld is proud to present a massive report on the 2-part Season Seven finale, "The Lost City!" Written by Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper, the episodes were originally penned as the SG-1 feature film, and thus have a much larger, more ambitious scale to them. The story also sets up the spin-off television series Stargate Atlantis, which is currently on track to launch in 2004 -- the same time SG-1's eighth season arrives on The Sci-Fi Channel (story).

But first, a word about GateWorld's spoiler policy. Our philosophy is that printing episode spoilers can greatly add to the excitement and enthusiasm of being a fan -- but that too many spoilers can make the episode less enjoyable, because the plot twists come as no surprise. We try to strike a balance, then, between promoting the show with lots of spoiler news, but not going so far as reducing your enjoyment of the episode to simply seeing how the cast and crew executed a story you already know.

Our policy is therefore to refrain from printing much of anything from an episode's final act (the last 10 minutes or so), as well as many (but not all) major plot twists. What you'll find in the report below on "The Lost City" is therefore enough to fill you in on what happens in the episode, but should leave plenty for you to gasp and jump up and down over when the episode finally airs! There is a lot of info here, but we've left plenty of stones unturned in this epic 2-parter.

Ready? Here's what our anonymous reporter had to say:

'The Fifth Race'THE LOST CITY, PART 1
(Episode Guide)
"The S.G.C. has discovered another repository of the Ancients' library on an alien world -- and a Goa'uld drone was spotted, so the Goa'uld must know about it, too. SG-1 plans to go in with back-up, and extract the device to bring it back for study in the hopes of finding the Ancients' Lost City. The team locates the device, but Anubis' forces attack -- they must take quick action, or risk losing the library to the Goa'uld. Jack takes another download of the repository, and the team destroys the facility. Yes, it almost killed him last time ('The Fifth Race'); the stakes are that high!

"They've tried to contact Thor and have the Asgard standing by to save O'Neill's life, but Thor isn't responding.

"Meanwhile, General Hammond learns that he is being reassigned. President Henry Hayes invites him to the Oval Office, and fills him in on the details. If he can't stay at the S.G.C., Hammond has retirement in mind instead -- but the President won't allow it. He has an important new assignment for the general.

"Dr. Theresa Weir is also invited to the Oval Office to meet with President Hayes. She has two PhDs, speaks five languages, and has negotiated a dozen international treaties -- she's a scholar, a scientist, and a diplomat. She has a strong aversion to the military, however. Hayes wants her to run the Stargate program, but insists that there should be some measure of military presence -- though the program will not be run by the military any more. Not only are other world governments putting pressure on the U.S., but the President is also wary of the program looking like a secret military operation when it eventually goes public.

Ronny Cox as Vice President Kinsey"Dr. Weir (who is a likely candidate to be a regular character in the spin-off) will have three months to review the program and rebuild it from the ground up, during which normal operations will be suspended and a new governmental division is established. Robert Kinsey is now Vice President of the United States, and he wants the program under his jurisdiction, but Hayes promises Weir that won't happen -- she'll answer to no one but the President.

"Knowing that it will be a few days before the Ancients' library begins to take its effect on him, O'Neill takes the weekend off to put his personal affairs in order. Sam, Daniel and Teal'c visit him at his house for some team bonding.

"Weir feels pressure from Kinsey, who not only wants control over the program, he wants O'Neill and the rest of SG-1 gone. But she's tough enough to stand up to his bullying -- and she knows that she has the President on her side. She refuses to become Kinsey's tool.

"Theresa begins to put together her new Stargate program, and puts Daniel and other staff through an interview process. He's more concerned about Jack's condition, and that finding the Lost City is the key to saving Earth. Meanwhile, Bra'tac and his apprentice Ronan arrive through the gate with a startling warning: Anubis, knowing that the Tau'ri beat him to the Ancients' library of knowledge, is assembling his fleet for an all-out attack on Earth."

'Prometheus'THE LOST CITY, PART 2
(Episode Guide)
"A small group of Anubis' ships approach Earth to test our defenses -- to see if SG-1 has managed to procure the Ancient technology everyone is after. They haven't. But Hammond warns the President against sending out Prometheus and showing their hand (or lack thereof) just yet. Anubis begins his attack, systematically destroying Navy ships from space. It may be impossible to keep this from the general public any longer.

"With O'Neill gradually losing his mind to the Ancients' library, he shares personal, unspoken moments with his team members. They fear he may not survive. As Jack begins to be able to access the Ancients' knowledge in his head, SG-1, Bra'tac and Ronan take a ship to explore an inhospitable, volcanic world called Taonas, hoping it might be home (or once have been home) to the Lost City of the Ancients. What they discover on Taonas is not the Lost City -- but that the Lost City is on Earth!

"Meanwhile, Anubis appears in the Oval Office as a hologram, demanding that President Hayes surrenders the planet. 'Bow before your god,' he commands him.

"Jack discovers that his transformation is more than just the Ancients' library rewriting his brain's 'software.' He's even acquiring some of the Ancients' particular abilities, which we've seen previously demonstrated (see 'Frozen').

Ayiana in 'Frozen'"When Anubis becomes confident that Earth does not possess the technology to stand against him, his massive fleet arrives -- including a huge new command ship. The President orders Prometheus to launch, with General Hammond in command! Major Davis is also on board. As the ship engages Anubis, SG-1 rushes back to Earth and toward Antarctica, where they believe the Lost City to be buried.

"Will SG-1 arrive in time? Is the Lost City truly on Earth, and can they find it? And if they do, will there even be anything there to stop Anubis' fleet from annihilating the planet? Without the Asgard, can Jack O'Neill be saved? A stunning, emotional cliff-hanger answers some, but not all, of these questions."

Keep in mind that, as these episodes are still in production, information presented here is subject to change.

"The Lost City" will likely air in early March on The Sci-Fi Channel. The network could conceivably decide to air the 2-part finale as a one-night movie event. Whether it will be followed next summer by just Season Eight, or by Season Eight and the spin-off series, remains to be seen. Also a mystery is just how the S.G.C. could possibly return to normal operations for next season, given the profound changes in these episodes.

New details on Season Seven's 'Chimera'
JULY 18, 2003

<A HREF=Samantha Carter">New plot info has surfaced for the late Season Seven episode "Chimera," originally nicknamed "Black Widow Carter" by Stargate's writing team. Beware of some SPOILERS in the report below!

Here's what our anonymous tipster reported:

"'Chimera' deals with the fact that Major Carter's romantic interests tend to end up dead. Can she possibly find herself a stable boyfriend? And if he's not an alien, how can she have a serious relationship with someone from whom she has to hide her whole life -- the Stargate program?

"Sam's love interest is Peter Shannon, a detective from Denver. He appears to be in town investigating a case when they meet and begin seeing each other. Walking home after a movie, Pete wants to know about Sam's work, because it's her life. She can't share it. He's been asked to return to Denver, but is stalling his boss in the hopes that his relationship with Sam will go somewhere.

Sarah Gardner / Osiris"The episode will also see the return of Anna-Louise Plowman as Osiris, the Goa'uld who has taken Daniel's former girlfriend Sarah as its host ('The Curse'). What's not clear yet is just how these two stories intersect (or if they do at all). Daniel has a dream about a Goa'uld-free Sarah, and having a romantic relationship with her again. Sarah's fate, for good or for ill, will be decided in this episode.

"Pete is seriously injured during the course of the story. Can he be the one to finally break Sam's 'black widow' curse, or is he fated to be another name on the casualty list?"

Casting is now underway for "Chimera," which will go before cameras in August or September. The episode will air early next year on The Sci-Fi Channel.

First info on Season Seven's 'Chimera'
JUNE 23, 2003

A late Season Seven episode that has long been in the rumor mill finally has a working title: "Chimera." Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi told fans in an online chat at StarGateNews.De that the episode will give "a peek at Sam's private life, and a potential new boyfriend."

"Chimera" was previously nicknamed "Black Widow Carter," as it deals with Carter's penchant for seeing her potential romantic interests killed off. The episode will also see the return of Anna Louise Plowman as the Goa'uld Osiris. To that, Mallozzi said, "Osiris makes a return appearance to haunt Daniel Jackson."

Visit the Season Seven episode guide for more details! We'll continue to add details on this episode as they become available. "Chimera" will be filmed later this summer for a 2004 airing.

Read the complete chat transcript at the German fan site StarGateNews.De.

New 'Grace' plot details
JUNE 18, 2003

Samantha CarterNew details about the late Season Seven episode "Grace" continue to come in, as the episode winds its way through the production cycle. Beware of spoilers below!

A GateWorld source helped to fill in more details on the upcoming episode, which will find Samantha Carter stranded alone on the Prometheus, adrift in an interstellar cloud:

"'Grace' will have one of the best space battles yet seen on Stargate. As mentioned before, the Prometheus has been retrieved from the planet in 'Memento' and is on its way home when it appears to come under attack. The alien vessel(s) open fire on ship, and Captain Ronson returns fire with four of six missile tubes. But the alien ship shoots down the missiles, and begins to drain the shields with either their weapons or a shield-draining beam.

"The captain orders all tubes to be fired. But before they are fired, Carter suggests that they try her plan. She runs to hyperspace control to override safety protocols to allow a small hyperspace jump. As she does this, the ship is rocked. They make it into a nearby gas cloud, but Carter is knocked unconcious. She awakens to find the ship deserted. She is badly injured, and all lifepods are gone. She hears someone singing 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,' but falls unconcious.

"This episode may be played as one big dream sequence (besides the space battle), as Carter's loved-ones all appear to chime in with their analysis of her life. They seem to be making Carter realise that she has missed out on love, because of her job, etc. Daniel, O'Neill, Jacob and Teal'c all appear to her."

"Grace" will air on The Sci-Fi Channel in 2004.

(Thanks to Brent for the report!)

First info on Season Seven's 'Death Knell'
JUNE 17, 2003

The first details are here on a previously unknown episode, set to air in the second half of Season Seven! "Death Knell" will see SG-1 return to the Alpha Site (previously seen in "Allegiance"), and is likely written and directed by Peter DeLuise.

Watch out for spoilers below for this and other unaired episodes! Here's what early reports indicate:

"The Alpha Site is betrayed to the Goa'uld, who launch a crushing attack on the planet -- but not before the self destruct can destroy the base. The base is being used to develop a weapon to stop Anubis' new drone army ('Evolution'), but only one is available.

"The Beta Site, which does exist, is mentioned. Jacob is present, but Major Carter has gone missing. Colonel O'Neill and Teal'c are searching for her. A combat-capable U.A.V. as well as normal U.A.V.s are used in the search.

"Anubis has also launched an attack on Olokun's homeworld. Teal'c again gets to carry his glider gun, and O'Neill either has the prototype drone weapon, or another prototype weapon. It is mentioned that Carter has a 'vest' on, which may allude to the ceramic armour to be developed in 'Heroes.' Siler is also in the episode. It seems to be a big episode, and airs after 'Evolution.'"

"Death Knell" includes the following guest characters: Delek, Lieutenant Glen, M'Zel and Major Green.

The episode will likely go before cameras after the cast and crew's mid-season hiatus, and will air in 2004.

(Thanks to Brent for the report!)

Season Seven premieres on Sci-Fi
JUNE 13, 2003

Michael Shanks in 'Fallen'A brand new year of Stargate SG-1 kicks off tonight, and a slew of television critics are checking in with their opinions of Season Seven's 2-part opener.

  • The L.A. Times gave the show a big thumbs up. "As the seventh season unfolds tonight in a two-hour premiere," Mark Sachs writes, "it quickly becomes clear that space is still a dangerous place, and that the show remains one of the delights of its genre."

  • TV Guide laments the loss of Sci-Fi's Farscape, and questions whether SG-1 can fill its shoes. "Since its 1997 inception, the series has provided meat-and-potatoes escapism with a dash of intelligence and plenty of action," reviewer G.J. Donnelly writes. "But despite occasional flickers of inspiration, it's merely a mediocre adventure with better-than-average production values."

  • The Boston Herald's John Ruch gave the premiere two out of four stars, panning the episode as a rip-off of "Star Wars." "As it enters its seventh season, the most exciting thing Stargate SG-1 has to offer is the return of a cast member who was so bored with his character that he left the show. That tells you all you need to know about this aging sci-fi series, which at this point looks pretty boring itself."

  • The New York Daily News features tonight's 2-parter in its "TV Tonight" column.

  • Zap2It leads off its "Friday Best Bets" column with Stargate's premiere event, suggesting that "perhaps [Richard Dean] Anderson can make some sort of wacky contraption from paper clips, newspaper, an M-80 and a mango to destroy Anubis once and for all."

The 3-hour premiere event begins with a behind-the-scenes documentary at 8 p.m. Eastern/Pacific, tonight on The Sci-Fi Channel! The 2-part "Fallen" and "Homecoming" follows at 9 p.m. After the show, join us in the chat room at GateWorld Forums to talk about the show!

Saturday, June 14, GateWorld will host a live chat event with executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, who co-wrote tonight's "Homecoming." The event begins at 4 p.m. Eastern / 1 p.m. Pacific.

RATINGS: Syndication Week of May 12
    JUNE 11, 2003

'Revelations'Season Five went out with a bit of a whimper, though the season finale still managed to take first place in the first-run dramatic hour category in U.S. syndication. "Revelations" earned a 2.3 household rating for the week of May 12.

Here's the top three rankings for the week:

About 2.45 million homes tuned in to SG-1 during the week. This is down one-tenth of a point from the previous week.

Although ratings for all new episodes aired in Season Five are not available, it looks like the season average will shape up to be a 2.5 rating. This is down about 14 percent from last year's 2.77 average, though Stargate has not suffered as large of a drop as other shows in its category. SG-1 finished this season as the number one dramatic hour in syndication.

Check out our complete ratings summary for Season Five! Reruns will continue to air through the summer, with Season Six premiering in syndication in September.

First plot info on Season Seven's 'Grace'
    JUNE 11, 2003

Amanda Tapping as Samantha CarterFirst it was "Crossfire," then it was "Passengers" -- now it's titled "Grace," and the first plot details are here! Casting has begun for the mid-Season Seven episode, written by Damian Kindler, which may wait to go before cameras after the crew's 3-week hiatus which begins at the end of June.

Beware of spoilers in the report below! Here's what our anonymous tipster told us:

"The guest character is a little girl named Grace. Sam and Daniel (who may be a hallucination) are on the Prometheus, discussing whether the gas cloud they're flying through is trying to communicate with Sam by making her think she is seeing a little girl, Grace, while she is passed out.

"Sam passes out again and again sees the little girl. She asks the girl whether she is her mother, and the girl replies that she is 'Grace.' Carter also sees Jacob, her father, while she is passed out."

Previous news indicates that in this episode, Carter joins a team from Earth in retrieving the Prometheus from the planet where it was forced to land in Season Six's "Memento," and flying it back to Earth. She is knocked unconscious during the ship's journey, and awakens to find the ship deserted, and all the lifepods gone.

Keep your browser pointed at the Season Seven episode guide for the very latest! Stargate SG-1's new season begins this Friday, June 13, on The Sci-Fi Channel.

    First 'Fall-Out' plot details available
    JUNE 7, 2003

Jonas QuinnThe first plot info for Season Seven's "Fall-Out" is here! The episode is based on a story pitched by actor Corin Nemec (Jonas Quinn), and will see SG-1 return to Kelowna to assist Jonas' people face a new threat.

Beware of spoilers in the report below, both for this episode and for Season Seven's "Homecoming." Here's what our anonymous tipster tells us:

"The three countries on Jonas' homeworld have forged a tenative peace, formed a Joint Ruling Council and renamed the planet Langaria (apparently they all had different names for it before.) It isn't the easiest of alliances, though, and Daniel and General Hammond attempt to help them come to a consensus while Carter and Jonas work with Kianna to try to find a solution to the 'naquadria problem.'

"The details are sketchy as to what the problem is, but it sounds as if the instability of naquadria is related to or causing some sort of build-up -- or maybe it's fall-out from whatever they used to defeat Anubis ('Homecoming')? It's on the verge of producing an explosion big enough to turn a third of Kelowna (the nation, not the planet) into a crater. This in turn will throw enough dust and debris up into the atomosphere to throw the planet into a 'nuclear winter' and wipe out all life.

"Hammond and Daniel are trying to convince the councilors to relocate as many people as possible to a friendly planet before this happens. The councilors are still too rooted in their countries' long-held animosity to agree on much of anything, even if it will save lives.

"Meanwhile Jonas, who has fallen for Kianna since he's been home, is proving just how much he has in common with Daniel. Seems he's joined the 'my girlfriend has been taken over by a Goa'uld' club. And the Goa'uld who has taken over Kianna claims to know how to save the planet, if they'll only let her. What the three have been working on is a Jules Verne-type machine that tunnels towards the center of the planet. It seems that they want to tunnel their way to a large deposit of naquadria.

"There are several references to the 'naquadria problem,' and Daniel gets graphic on the expected explosion for the benefit of the councilors to try to stop them from bickering.

Guest characters in this episode include Kianna (a scientist who is Jonas' love interest), Lucia Tarthus (Tiranian Council member) and Vin Eremal (Andari Council member). Dreylock is also back, and has been promoted to First Minister.

    SG1_Spoilme adds more details:

"Jonas is working on this solving this naquadria mess along with Kianna, who appears to be his girlfriend as well. Instead of using a digger machine to create tunnels, he'd like to use the Tok'ra method of creating tunnels. ... Kianna's Gou'ald personality doesn't want the planet destroyed either; apparently Baal has some nefarious plans for it."

Finally, executive producer Joseph Mallozzi sheds more light on the episode in the latest edition of the official fan club's Explorer Unit newsletter:

"Jonas comes to us and he asks for our help, because it turns out that the original Goa'uld who was on his planet had done a process by which he could transform naquadah into naquadria. Basically they've discovered that there's this massive naquadah vein that reaches down almost to the heart of the planet, and it's gradually turning into naquadria. But the problem with naquadria is that it's very unstable. So the deeper you go, the more pressure is exerted on the vein, and the more heat is exerted, and they'll reach a point where the naquadria will explode. And when it does, it will ultimately destroy Kelowna, and create a nuclear winter that will wipe out the rest of the planet. So SG-1 goes to the planet to try and find a way to avert disaster."

"Fall-Out" will go in front of cameras in a few weeks, and will likely air in the second half of the season, in 2004.

DeLuise teases 'Fallen' and 'Fragile Balance'
    MAY 29, 2003

Season Seven will start with a bang of galactic proportions, according to Stargate SG-1 director Peter DeLuise. In an interview with Cult Times magazine, DeLuise gave a few more hints as to just what the first few episodes of the season are about.

Beware of big spoilers for Seasons Six and Seven below!

"Basically, 'Fallen' is about how Anubis is about to take over the galaxy, and we have to stop him because he is able to wipe out whole planets with his primary death ray," DeLuise explained. "It's the one that wiped out Abydos at the end of Season Six. Now we’re having to stop Anubis from carrying on in this fashion because there is nothing standing between him and his ability to wipe out all of Earth. So that's the first order of business."

"By taking Jonas prisoner, Anubis is able to use his memory device on him and figure out everything that Jonas knows, which turns out to kick us in the ass all season long."

After the 2-part opener, the season continues with "Fragile Balance" -- an episode originally pitched for the show's fourth season, but shelved more than once. The episode will address the real-life stories of UFO abductions, and revisit the Asgard's inability to sexually reproduce. "Years and years of cloning themselves has led [the Asgard] to limited returns," DeLuise said. "They're physically quite frail and are in need of some sort of genetic infusion somehow. That's why they've been abducting us."

Check out the June issue of Cult Times (with Jack O'Neill on the cover) for the full story! An excerpt is available on the magazine's Web site. Season Seven premieres on The Sci-Fi Channel in the U.S. on Friday, June 13.

First info on Season Seven's 'Grace'
    MAY 28, 2003

The first details are in on a brand new episode, set to air late in Season Seven. SG-1 co-executive producer Joseph Mallozzi gave fans their first hint about the Carter-centered episode "Grace" in his new GateWorld WebLog!

Beware of some minor spoilers in the report below!

"Damian [Kindler] is doing a second pass on late-season episode and Carter character piece 'Grace,' a lovely little story that will no doubt show off Amanda [Tapping]'s acting talents. ... Carter gets trapped on a ship. Did someone say 'ship'?"

The episode may be the same story that Kindler pitched earlier this year, which is said to see Jacob Carter and his Tok'ra symbiote Selmak conflict over whether or not Sam should be sacrificed for a greater good.

He also mentioned the story behind Peter DeLuise's final script of the season -- "which sees the team returning to the Alpha Site in a desperate attempt to save one of their own." Earth's Alpha Site was first seen in Season Six's "Allegiance."

Visit GateWorld's new WebLogs section to read the rest of Mallozzi's latest update!

    Season Seven episode titles updated
    MAY 19, 2003

We've updated GateWorld's Season Seven episode guide with revised titles, thanks to an update from executive producer Joseph Mallozzi at GateWorld Forums!

The Carter-centric "Crossfire" has been renamed "Passengers." No concrete plot details are yet known for this episode.

The Unas episode "Hallowed Ground" has returned to its original working title, "Enemy Mine."

"Heroes," once pitched as a light-hearted episode but which took a very serious turn, will now be a 2-parter.

We've also added a brand new episode, tentatively titled "Fall-Out." The episode will be based on a story pitched by actor Corin Nemec ("Jonas Quinn"), and should see the return of Jonas in the second half of the season.

Keep your browser pointed to GateWorld's episode guide for the latest!

Shanks on Season Seven story developments
    MAY 15, 2003

Actor Michael Shanks ("Daniel Jackson") recently spoke with Sci Fi Wire about the upcoming seventh season, and how the writers are adapting to another year of the show after wrapping up storylines in expectation of a feature film.

"They seemed to kill a lot of characters, end a lot of races and eliminate a lot of our potential allies, so everything would be in place for a big, climactic two-hour movie," Shanks said. "Then, when they realized we were going [for a seventh season], they said, 'Oh boy, we killed everyone. We eliminated all our threats, and now we have to start all over again.'"

Shanks also noted that the upcoming episode "Space Race" will have some of the show's best space ship visual effects ever.

    Mid-season 2-parter revealed
    MAY 15, 2003

The first info on Season Seven's big mid-year 2-parter is here! The team must rescue one of its own from a dangerous new threat in "Evolution."

The teleplay was written by Damian Kindler from a story by himself and Michael Shanks. Peter DeLuise is set to direct the episodes.

Beware of spoilers in the report below! Here's what our source had to say about "Evolution:"

"Daniel travels to Honduras in search of 'Telchak's Device.' He goes in the guise of an American archeologist from a university. Daniel and his team are captured just after they find the device, and held for ransom by Rafael and his men. Telchak is/was a Mayan god (read: Goa'uld). What his device does, Daniel isn't sure -- but the tablet that led Daniel to it's location on Earth warns that the device is extremely dangerous.

"Rafael activates the device, attempting to discover what it is, and his behavior becomes increasingly erratic and violent. Daniel and his team are tortured. In response to the ransom demand, O'Neill heads for Honduras and enlists the aid of Burke, an eccentric CIA agent who was once a friend, but who has been exiled to working Honduras thanks to a prior incident to which O'Neill bore witness. Unfortunately, O'Neill isn't so sure he can trust Burke anymore, but the man is his only hope of finding the rebel camp where Daniel and his team are being held.

"Meanwhile, Carter, Teal'c, Jacob and Bra'tac go off-world to try and determine where a nearly indestructible warrior came from. These warriors keep right on killing even after being shot repeatedly (think 'Terminator' here), and have already wiped out a number of minor Goa'uld. The fear is that they will eventually be sent after Earth or one of Earth's allies."

The episodes include the following guest characters: Jacob Carter, Bra'tac, Dr. Lee (who joins Daniel's team -- last seen in Season Six's "Paradise Lost"), Anubis, Rafael (Honduran rebel leader), Burke (CIA agent based in Honduras), Pedro (hired jungle guide), Jaffa Guard, Rogelio (another guide), Paulson (a member of Daniel's team), Simms (another team member), Chalo (Rafael's right -hand man), Thoth, Major Shelby, Ramius (a minor Goa'uld lord) and Jaffa Commander.

There's even more info at SG1_Spoilme, which adds these details:

"Daniel and several archeologists are down in the jungles of Honduras searching for some ancient alien device and a sarcophagus, but instead they are abducted by rebels who specialize in selling kidnapped Americans back to companies, families, etc. ... The man who must work with Jack is Burke, an ex-CIA agent who once worked with Jack, and got burned badly when an operation went bad."

Check out GateWorld's Season Seven episode guide for more on "Evolution!" The first half is expected to air late this summer as a mid-season cliffhanger, with part two airing in January on The Sci-Fi Channel.

(Thanks to 'Wolverine,' Brent Spargo and Andrew Clarke for contributing!)

    Cooper teases Season Seven developments
    MAY 6, 2003

Who's that Goa'uld bent on galactic domination? Stargate SG-1 executive producer Robert C. Cooper offered fans a tantalizing tease in the newest issue of MGM's Sci-Fi Newsletter, in an interview about the show's upcoming seventh season.

Beware of some general spoilers in the report below! If you'd rather not know anything about Season Seven before you watch it on Sci-Fi this summer, turn back now ...

"Anubis will make great strides toward his ultimate goal of total domination of the Goa'uld," Cooper said. "Using ancient strategies combined with new technology, he will create a new super army. Whether or not they can be controlled is yet to be seen."

Cooper also talked about Daniel's memory loss, saying that his memory "will slowly return over the course of many episodes." Part of that self-discovery will send SG-1 to a Jaffa prison camp in the season's fourth episode, "Orpheus," where the team must rescue Teal'c's son.

Check out the complete interview in Volume 15 of the MGM Sci-Fi Newsletter! The latest installment also includes a brief interview with series star Richard Dean Anderson ("Jack O'Neill"), MGM's new conventions calendar, and more.

    New 'Orpheus' plot details
    MAY 3, 2003

Here's an update on the plot of Season Seven's "Orpheus," set to air on June 27 as the new season's fourth episode. Beware of spoilers in the report below!

Here's what our anonymous tipster had to say:

"Teal'c recovers from a wound sustained in his pouch, which should have killed him if he had a Goa'uld inside. The tretonin is healing him, but his behavior is strange; he feels he's failed as a Jaffa.

"Daniel deals with his still lacking memory of what happened while ascended. Daniel has a vision while in kel'no'rim with Teal'c. It's Daniel who sees Rya'c and Bra'tac in a slave labor camp. Daniel begins to feel guilty that he did not do anything to help while ascended. Through subsequent visions, Daniel is able to give SG-1 the lay of the land.

"There's a funny scene with Carter filling Daniel in on the sci-fi movies he's missed while ascended. Without mentioning it, she rips apart the plot holes in 'Signs.' If their weakness was water, why bother invading a planet that is two-thirds water, not to mention the rain?

"They've done some nice upgrades to the Goa'uld ship corridors. For 'Homecoming' and 'Fallen' the standard gold corridors have been made a blackish metallic highlighted with blueish lighting for Anubis' ship. They're a metallic brown for this episode."

Read more about "Orpheus" in GateWorld's Season Seven episode guide.

Amanda TappingMajor Samantha Carter is in for a good time in the upcoming episode "Space Race," actress Amanda Tapping told Sci Fi Wire. The Season Seven episode now filming in Vancouver, British Columbia.

"It's interesting to play her [in] this episode, because she's a lot more fun, a little cheekier," she said. "She's like a little kid, because everything is all about this race, and she really gets off on it."
