Are Democrats supporting America's enemies?

Doug Hagin

Doug Hagin
December 1, 2003

What has happened to the Democratic Party in America is truly a tragedy. Once a party which was actually the Conservative Party with conservative ideals it has now become a party of left-wing special interests.

The party of Harry Truman has devolved into the party of radical environmentalists and anti-freedom gun grabbers. The party of good men like my late Grandfather, who exemplified rugged individualism and Southern manners and good will, is no more. Now the Democratic Party has turned it's back on those values it only recently espoused.

Once the only party in the ultra-conservative South, the Democratic Party has turned to demonizing Dixie and her heroes and symbols. Recent remarks by Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean about being the candidate of guys with Confederate flags on their trucks sparked a rash of anti-Southern rhetoric from his fellow Democrats.

The Democratic Party has become merely a shadow of itself in the last thirty years or so. Once a party, which believed in strong national defense the Democrats, has become the party of slashing the military. Democratic policies in the 1990's crippled our intelligence network and reduced dangerously our armed forces.

Increasingly the supporters of the Democratic Party have become more and more anti-Constitution, anti- freedom and yes anti-American. No I am not questioning the patriotism of most Democratic voters. I am, however; seriously questioning just how far the Democrats as a party has to go before they are actively supporting America's enemies.

Consider the recent actions of Democratic presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich and some of his fellow Democrats. Mr. Kucinich headlined a fund-raiser this past Saturday, November 22 for the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Why is this such a troubling sign? Well the fact is CAIR has some dangerous and decidedly un-American ties to Mideast terrorist groups like Hamas. Sound a little hard to swallow? Considering changing your party affiliation yet? Wait, there is more.

CAIR announced following the Saturday fund-raiser that it had raised more than 1 million dollars thanks to the Saturday event attended by more than 1,000 people including Kucinich and Rep. Nick Wahall Democrat of West Virginia.

Kucinich apparently is no stranger to CAIR or to offering his aid and comfort to them. Recently Kucinich attended a Ramadan iftar, or fast breaking, on Capitol Hill hosted Democrat John Conyers of Michigan. Other leading Democrats co-sponsoring this event included Barbara Lee of California, Gregory Meeks of New York, and Loretta Sanchez of California.

To his credit Rep. Meeks has since re-thought his sponsorship of this event telling the New York Sun: "I do not want to be associated with anyone who condones suicide bombers, anti-Semitism or condones the extremes in Islam." Good for Rep. Meeks. But what of his fellow Democrats?

Where is their re-thinking of their support of CAIR? Where is there realization that they are offering aid to the enemies of America? Do they not know we are currently engaged in a life or death struggle with terrorists?

Certainly the record of CAIR supports the charges of terrorist sympathizing. Ghassan Elashi, a founding board member of the Texas Chapter of CAIR was indicted last December for engaging in financial transactions with Hamas leader Musa abu Marzook. And Democrats are supporting this group?

CAIR advisory board member Siraj Wahhaj was named in 1995 by US attorney Mary Jo White as a possible co-conspirator in plans to blow up New York City landmarks including the World Trade Center in 1993.

Ismail Randall Royer, a communication specialist for CAIR was indicted earlier this year in Virginia that he and 10 other Muslim men were part of a conspiracy to support violent jihad overseas. Other CAIR leaders have also been indicted and linked with terror groups. Others, like CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper, have openly expressed a desire for America to become a Muslim nation. "I wouldn't want to create the impression that I wouldn't like the government of the United States to become Islamic sometime in the future."

Surely the same Democrats who are always carping about separation of church and state would never support this type of rhetoric. Would they? Apparently so.

Fact is if a Christian leader dares mention that America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles Democrats go bonkers. Yet these Democrats are fully supporting a group which has ties to the evil forces we are fighting.

Democrats have become adept recently at bemoaning the losses in Iraq of America lives. Yet these Democrats are helping to raise millions for this group which is supporting our enemies. How far has the Democratic Party fallen? You tell me.
