In Poker there is 'Bluff',
there is 'Tell', there is 'Aggressive Play'
so as to lure others into submission, there
is 'Action', and there is room for 'scaring'
yourself to fold. There is scope for keeping
yourself detached from the game and still
very much in it.
There is scope for creativity. You should
be observant of each player and not only
be able to discuss even a tiny flicker of
facial emotions or general body language,
but also judge correctly its import.
What is 'Bluff' in poker parlance? Suppose
you have a hand which is not impressive
– just mediocre, you start to bluff
by bidding higher with a view to convince
others that you really have exceptional
cards in your hand, paving the way for competing
players to fold. You have to establish your
acting skills neatly and hold your fort!
You have to keep your poise and equanimity!
A 'Tell' can be defined as a distinctive
trait or mannerism which surfaces involuntarily
at times, making the other watchful players
to surmise the strength of your hand.
In poker not only you should not 'tell'
but also be able to watch for other players
'tell' and act. It means you should be in
total control of yourself and additionally
be able to possess excellent observational
skills. You should have a fine honed skill
in making correct decisions at the correct
time.
You should have total control of your
facial expressions lest you may make others
guess your cards. In poker you should wear
a 'poker face' i.e., expressionless face.
You are detached, expressionless, possess
observational skills, take correct decisions
at the right time, know when and how to
bluff. You are creative, have good judgmental
abilities, keep your poise and equanimity
always as well as disciplined. This is how
Poker trains you with exposure. |
