Flyers Trade Rights to Dmitri Yushkevich to Washington
The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have traded the rights to defenseman Dmitry Yushkevich to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a seventh round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, according to General Manager Bob Clarke. Yushkevich is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Yushkevich, 31, recorded two goals and two assists for four points and eight penalty minutes in 18 regular season games for the Flyers this past season. He was acquired by the Flyers from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and a seventh round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft on March 1, 2003. Prior to joining the Flyers, Yushkevich had posted 10 points (1G,9A) and 38 penalty minutes in 65 games for the Kings and the Florida Panthers. He was traded by Florida to the Kings in exchange for Jaroslav Bednar and Andreas Lilja on November 26, 2002.
In 786 career regular season games over 11 NHL seasons (1992-93 through 2002-03) with the Flyers, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida and Los Angeles, Yushkevich has registered 43 goals and 182 assists for 225 points and 659 penalty minutes. Over parts of four seasons with the Flyers (1992-93 through 1994-95 and 2002-03), Yushkevich recorded 17 goals and 63 assists for 80 points and 212 penalty minutes in 215 regular season games.
