Researchers Requirements Working Group

Goals & objectives

Since the very beginning, IIPC members have acknowledged that given the huge amount of documents available on the Internet and overall their ephemeral nature, sampling, even if done at large scale with automatic tools was the only realistic option.

This means that important decisions have to be taken that will have an enduring impact on the material available for future researchers using archives shaped by this work as a primary source.

To take advice and discuss with researchers working in this area the Researchers Requirements Working Group includes not only members of the participating libraries but also participants from others institutions mainly research institutions (see list).

The aim of this working group is to elaborate a common vision on what web archives should contain, their scope, extent, updating, structuring and associated information.

Expected deliverables

  • Survey of existing practice in Web Studies
  • Assessment of the impact on Web archiving

Leader

Julien Masanès, National Library of France, IIPC programme officer

List of associated researchers

Others: Framework / Researchers Requirements / Access Tools / Metrics and Testbed / Deep Web / Content Management
