Use of the name and logo of the European Central Bank

The European Central Bank (ECB) has observed that its name and logo has been used and is being used in connection with activities that do not form part of the responsibilities of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB). The ECB wishes to point out that it does not collect cross-border transfer fees, nor issue certificates for the release of funds.

The main objective of the ECB and the ESCB is to guarantee price stability in the euro area. For this purpose, a mandate with clearly defined tasks and responsibilities has been laid down in a Protocol annexed to the Treaty establishing the European Community  more.

If members of the public see or receive documentation of questionable origin that refers to, or allegedly stems from, the European Central Bank, they are advised to  contact the ECB or  their national central bank, or to seek advice from the relevant national authorities.

The ECB further wishes to point out that it cannot be held responsible if its name, logo and address are misused in schemes intended to defraud the public.
