Agaram
Nandha, Hardeep Singh

Nandha, after playing the hero in 'Punnagai Poove', has on the floors a new film titled 'Agaram'. Paired with him is Hardeep Singh, a former Ms Punjab. Also being introduced to Tamil is Biju Menon, a popular actor of Malayalam films. Menon plays the baddie here. Produced by Sribhuvaneshwari Pictures, the film is directed by Nagaraj, who'd earlier directed the Sharat Kumar-starrer 'Aravindan'.

Ask about the title, Nagaraj and he say that 'Agaram' signifies the 'beginning'. "It's a film that revolves round the sea and the people around there," adds the director.

Some scenes were shot at a set that was made to look like the showroom of Airtel. A cell-phone plays a crucial part in the story, says Nagaraj. The set was designed by debutant Jackson.

The music is by Yuvan Shanker Raja. Incidentally, it was in Nagaraj's film 'Aravindan' that he made his debut as a music director.

Two stunt masters have been hired to choreograph the fight scenes. Super Subbarayan and Kanal Kannan. A fight scene was fought in the middle of the sea with Nandha and Biju Menon taking part. It took three cameras and 10 days to shoot the scene. Also used in the scene were 150 fishing boats and catamarans.

Some chase scenes were also picturised at busy lanes in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Pondicherry. Nandha, refusing dupes, performed most of the risky stunts himself, says the director. For a scene involving a political rally, the director had gathered about 1,000 junior artistes and many cycles and autos. The climax is to be shot abroad.

Dance choreography is by Kalyan. One of the songs was shot with 100 dancers and 1,000 junior artistes. Yet another song has been picturised with graphics. A dance was also shot at Thoothukudi harbour, and on a set there. Also doing an item number is Sheethal, a Mumbai model.

Wielding the camera is Vetrivel, a film institute graduate, who'd apprenticed with cinematographers like Saravanan and Arthur Wilson. Editing is by Suresh Urs.

The supporting cast has Vivek, Lokhasri, Raj Kapoor, Ilavarasu, and Telugu actress Anamika. Director Agathyan too plays a crucial role in the film.

The film is produced by Sivayogan, who heads 'Silver Media', the company that does editing-graphics for films. Incidentally, the producer and the director were room-mates when they were struggling to get a break in films.
