If the Wave synthesizer is the heart of the PPG system then the Waveterm would be it's brain. This self-contained, PPG dedicated computer came in several varieties. Basically there was the Waveterm A, and the Waveterm B.
The first Waveterm A had a Motorola 6809 CPU and 8-inch floppy disk drives. Later, the floppy drives were replaced with a smaller 5-inch type. Both A models offered 8-bit user sampling, however PPG factory samples on disk were 12-bit and could be played on the 12-bit EVU and Wave 2.3 (the 2.2 was 8-bit).
Below is a rare image of a prototype Waveterm A. Note the drive differences and the single row of function buttons.
