Race Tightens to Single Digits
A Keystone Poll released Oct. 7 shows Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Joe
Hoeffel has sliced the lead of 24-year incumbent Senator Arlen Specter by more
than half – resulting in a mere 9 points separating the two candidates.
The poll continues to show Specter in serious trouble at well under 50% in the
head-to-head against Joe Hoeffel.

TV AD ON THE AIR
The first Hoeffel for Senate
TV ad is now live on stations statewide. To watch the ad, click the screen below:
This is just the first of several ads in Joe's television campaign over the
next seven weeks -- all intended to tell Pennsylvania voters that Joe Hoeffel
is determined to change course and build a future that works for our Commonwealth
and our country.
This is a critical moment in the battle for Democratic control of the U.S. Senate, and
this ad is now on the air because of the amazing support Joe has received
from YOU and our entire grassroots community. In fact, supporters who voted
in our online "A Million To Win" campaign overwhelmingly encouraged
the campaign to spend their contributions on TV advertising.
You voted. We heard you. Game on -- we're on the air.
Now that the TV "air war" has begun, we need to keep it going
for the next 48 days, and to do that we need your support more than ever. Joe
Hoeffel can only take back this U.S. Senate seat for the Democrats
(and beat the Republican big money machine) with thousands of small contributions
from individual supporters all over the state. Now is the moment when
your help can make all the difference.
Our ongoing goal is to raise $1 million online before Election Day. You can
help us get Joe's ad into more living rooms, more often. If you can make a contribution
of $25, $50, $100, $250 or more today, we will be well on our way to "A
Million To Win."
Let's keep Joe on the air -- and on Nov. 2, let's elect a United States Senator
we can all be proud of.

Announces Neighborhood Security Act to Ban Assault Weapons
NARBERTH, PA – Democratic
Candidate for U.S. Senate Joe Hoeffel announced that he and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy
(D-NY) have introduced the “Neighborhood Security Act” in Congress
to reinstate the ban on 19 types of military-style assault weapons. Hoeffel
made the announcement at a community protest where Hoeffel, Governor Ed Rendell
and others spoke out against the failure of the White House and Republican Congress
to renew the Assault Weapons Ban.
“Our first responsibility in government is making people safe –
from threats both at home and abroad. George Bush failed this test of leadership
by going back on the promise he made during his run for President to maintain
the ban. Arlen Specter failed by voting to put these deadly assault weapons
back on our streets while at the same time claiming that he’s concerned
that some Philadelphia neighborhoods have been turned into virtual ‘war
zones’ by rampant gun use,” said Hoeffel.

SAYS SPECTER 'COPS OUT ON COPS' BY CUTTING FUNDS AND ALLOWING ASSAULT WEAPONS
BACK ON THE STREET
NARBERTH , PA – Democratic Candidate
for U.S. Senate Joe Hoeffel joined former Vice President Al Gore and local Democrats
in blasting the Bush-Cheney administration and its supporters like Arlen Specter
for cutting the COPS program for community police and, Hoeffel added, for allowing
the ban on deadly assault weapons to expire next Monday.
“Our first responsibility in government is making people safe,” said Hoeffel.
“Everyone talks about it, but it's our police officers who put themselves on
the line everyday to fulfill that responsibility. The rest of us in public service
have to do our jobs by standing behind them – giving them the tools, the resources
and the protection they need to keep our streets and communities safe.
