A Brief History of Geothermal Power in Idaho

Detailed History

Electrical production using geothermal energy has been successfully tested in Idaho, although there are no power plants currently operating. The Raft River in Cassia County is the only area in Idaho that has been successful in generating electrical power using geothermal resources (Figure 1).

There is great potential for power generation using geothermal resources in Idaho. There are several sites need further investigation. A study of potential sites was done which identified several of the most promising sites for electrical generation.
