NBC Wins Debate Audience Friday
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Fast National ratings for Friday, Oct. 8, 2004

The second presidential debate drew a pretty good-sized audience over the Big Four networks Friday, with NBC getting the biggest piece of it and winning the night.

NBC averaged a 6.6/11 share in primetime, beating out ABC's 5.5/9. CBS was third at 5.1/9. The WB, 2.2/4, edged out FOX, 2.1/4, for fourth place, while UPN came in at 1.9/3. Numbers for ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC reflect time period only and could change significantly when final ratings are calculated.

Among adults 18-49, NBC led with a 3.2 rating. ABC took second at 2.6, followed by CBS at 2.2. FOX and The WB tied for fourth at 1.4, and UPN was right behind at 1.3.

"Joan of Arcadia," 5.4/10, won the 8 p.m. hour for CBS, edging NBC's "Dateline," 5.2/10. ABC was third with "8 Simple Rules," 5.0/9, and "Complete Savages," 4.2/7. The finale of "The Complex: Malibu" on FOX and the season premiere of "Star Trek: Enterprise" on UPN tied for fourth at 2.0/4. The WB trailed with "What I Like About You" and "Grounded for Life."

NBC (7.4/13) took the lead at 9 p.m. with its coverage of the Bush-Kerry "town hall" debate from St. Louis. ABC posted a 6.0/10 for the hour and CBS a 4.9/8. The WB moved into fourth with "Reba," 2.7/4, and "Blue Collar TV," 2.2/4. FOX's debate coverage was fifth, ahead of an "America's Next Top Model" repeat on UPN.

NBC stayed in front at 10 p.m., scoring a 7.3/12 with the debate and post-game analysis. ABC averaged 5.8/10 for the hour and CBS 5.0/8.
