Tasmania's journal of discovery

What's in a name?

imageOur bedraggled little mate needs a name. Help us give him a suitable moniker and win one of five Images of Antarctic calendars [see below for more information on this superb production].

Our editors will select a shortlist of five names on closing day — December 10, 2004.

Photographed by Andy Townsend last summer at Verner Island near Australia’s Mawson base, this chubby little Adelie Penguin had been having a field day in mud, but was looking, according to Andy, a bit worried — and hungry — while waiting for mum to return from her daily foraging trip.

We’ve decided to adopt him as a mascot for our very popular Antarctic Connection section.

To enter, click here and submit up to three names for our little pal.
