12/03/04 - Music to listen to by the fire.
It's cold, it's December, there is red and green plastic being wrapped around anything cylindrical, forcing it, in a festive metamorphosis, to take on the hazy likeness of a candy cane. Does this upset me? Am I taken aback by holiday consumerism? Do I knit things instead of buy them? NO! I love Christmas! I realize that it's a major support in our economic structure, and I applaud the buyers of the world, including myself. Because without buying my friends, there could be no giving. And giving is what it's all about. Consider this your first gift. Midtown, themselves enveloped in Yuletide and Hannukah cheer, are giving you a fancier, brand new version of the loved song "Sister Golden Hair" which Gabe used to play in cold, liquor store doorways for quarters when all he knew were covers. Go to here to get the exclusive track.

Midtown is putting the chains back on the tires and doing some December dates with Senses Fail and Fall Out Boy. Check out the tour date section to see when they will be near you. Be warned though, the majority of these shows are already sold out.

And of course, don't forget to look through the midtown online store for a hoodie, t-shirt or poster for the midtown fan you love (even if it's yourself).

11/19/04 - Midtown on FUSE
So a few months ago I went to Texas for SXSW to hang out, check out some bands, host this special for Fuse, but most importantly, to get obliterated. The Fuse special, put together by the Dew Burning Van, features performances and interviews with Coheed, Sparta and some other bands. But most importantly it features me. . .drunk. Obnoxious? Maybe. Awesome? Totally!

Wow. I can't believe he just dropped dead. The weirdest thing is what happened the day before he died: We were playing at the Webster Theater in CT and there were a group of kids who were there early and were waiting outside in the freezing cold. I was hanging out by the merch area which was by the door, so I let the kids inside to warm up. But I told them that in exchange, they had to sing a song for Matchbook's merch guy, Dirty (click here to see why we call him Dirty). So I taught them the chorus to ODB's "(Hey, Dirty!) Baby I Got Your Money" and got them all singing along.

Next day, ODB drops dead. And though I'm sure it's not related, I can't help but think that our atrocious rendition had something to do with it.

I guess for me, ODB was appealing because he was crazy. And crazy people are fucking funny. But it was also inspiring to see someone who just didn't give a shit, push the boundaries of what was acceptable to the point of absurdity. Or maybe I'm just overanalyzing his significance because he's dead. And maybe what was special about him was nothing more than novelty; like watching a train wreck of circus freaks. Either way, he was a bad motherfucker, and I'm glad I got to see him play a few times before he died. To be honest, I couldn't imagine Dirt exiting any other way. I mean, who really wants to see their favorite rapper end up on some whack reality show like Flavor Flav?

For more information on ODB and his death please go here.

10/25/04!
Midtown is not afraid of prison or the people who live there. They are about Rock and Roll. They're about the insanity in the crowds eyes, which for most Australia tour dates, was most likely a shared love for music, but might also be the last, watered down traces of lawlessness and rancor that characterized Australia's early, migrant population of prisoners (see here).

But they're past that now. And all of Midtowns Australian shows were orderly and enjoyable. So enjoyable that they want to go to more countries with the Union Jack in their flag. So the UK's next! My Darling Britons, go see your beloved Midtown, they're playing with Hidden in Plain View only a few times, so scramble and clamber friends, get your tickets now.

Cocktails, Dramamine and Three Feature length movies later, Midtown will be in Atlanta, where they'll start a tour with Matchbook Romance and their euro-travel-buddies Hidden in Plain View. Also appearing will be The Academy Is and Name Taken on selected shows. Enjoy, enjoy.

Yo. So here's the business: Midtown's got some new stuff for you to check out on their revamped, more powerful website. Have you seen Highlander? Well if you haven't, here's how it works: The Highlander is an immortal Scottsman who kills other immortal Scottsmen by chopping off their heads (that's the only way they can be killed), and can then absorb their power and become more powerful, cooler and sexier immortal Scottsmen. Well that's kind of what happened to Midtown, except no one got killed I think. Included in these improvements are an updated tour journal (where you can hear about Heavy Metal Karaoke, the sport of Gods), a photo tour of Seattle by Rob Hitt, and a bunch of other stuff. Look at it. Absorb it. Live your dream.

Here is a clip from our set at the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan. We were really nervous before this show because there were 5 different stages and tons of awesome bands playing at the same time. We played relatively early, and there was no one watching the band that played before us. “Shit,” we thought, “there’s gonna be nobody here to see us.” But like clockwork, all our Japanese fans filed in before we went on--and as you can see from the video, we were psyched to be playing for such a large crowd. Thanks to everyone who came to see us, you made our trip to Japan amazing and unforgettable. And we’re sorry to everyone who couldn’t get in once the arena filled to capacity. We will be back soon — promise!

You may or may not have heard this, but a couple months ago, while playing a show at Stubb's in Austin, TX, Gabe cracked Tyler's head open with his bass. Gabe's bass mysteriously flew off his body, traversed the entire length of the stage, and landed square on the top of Tyler's skull--rendering Tyler's normally beautiful porcelain face a bloody mess. The details have yet to be released by the police investigation, but extra-terrestrial forces have not been ruled out. Anyway, to even the score, Gabe agreed to let Tyler punch him in the face. The video you're about to see may not be suitable for persons under the age of 18 or those with a weak stomach.

04/08/04 - FORGET WHAT YOU KNOW
Ladies and gentlemen, on June 29th the light will shine for all to bask in its glory. For on such date, our new album shall brighten the shelves of record stores across the nation.

Yes, you heard right. In case you missed it, here it is again:
JUNE 29, 2004 – NEW MIDTOWN RECORD!!

I know that the question plaguing everyone’s mind is "What label? What label?!" And though that should be as important to you as who is paying for your college is to me, I am happy to let you know that our new album will be released by Columbia Records. Why Columbia? Well, we hear they've got some exotic jungles with lush vegetations down in there parts.

The more important question should be, what do we title such a triumph of sheer brilliance?! One morning, not unlike this one today, under the haze of the open sky, the album’s name was revealed to us: Forget What You Know

I know what you are thinking, but as usual dear friend, you are wrong!
We are not saying "forget what you know about Midtown; here is a new band."

On the contrary! This statement, embodied in our title, goes way beyond any idea of our little band: Forget what you know about the world; forget what you know about yourself. Forget what you think you know about Project Mayhem. Embrace nothingness, be everything.
Huh? What? Exactly.
Stop thinking. Wake up.

Here, for the pleasure of your readership, is the track listing:
1) Armageddon, Motherfuckers.
2) To Our Saviour.
3) Give it Up.
4) Is it Me? Is it True?
5) God is Dead.
6) Whole New World.
7) Empty Like the Ocean.
8) Nothing is Ever What it Seems.
9) The Tragedy of the Human Condition.
10) Waiting for the News.
11) Until it Kills.
12) Help Me Sleep.
13) Hey Baby, Dont You Know that Were All Whores?
14) Manhattan.
15) So Long as We Keep Our Bodies Numb Were Safe.

Peace be with you.
