Vietnam Airlines received the first B777-ER to its ownership

On 21st August 2003, at the Aircraft Delivery Center of the Boeing Corporation, Vietnam Airlines received its first owned Boeing 777-200ER with the registered number VN-A143.
The aircraft is the first of four Boeing 777-200ER that Vietnam Airlines has purchased from the Boeing Corporation. The next 3 aircraft will be delivered in September 2003, October 2004 and October 2005.
On the same day, a Vietnamese Tourist and Trade Promotion event was held in the City Hall of San Francisco with the participation of hundreds of US businessmen, Vietnamese residents in the US and Vietnamese entrepreneurs. Vietnam Airlines, Vietnam Tourism Administration, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry were the main organizers of this event. Mrs. Linda Collin, Under Secretary of US commerce and The Mayor and Vice Mayor of San Francisco also took part in this event as representatives of the US.
After the meeting, participants were invited to Vietnam Airlines party held to mark the occasion of receiving its first owned B777. “The aircraft purchasing agreement between Vietnam Airlines and the Boeing commercial aircraft production Corporation has a particularly important meaning since it was signed right after the acceptance of the Vietnam and US Trade Agreement”- said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hien, the President & CEO of Vietnam Airlines - "The agreement has been seriously and strictly implemented in an effective atmosphere of bilateral co-operation. We highly believe in bright prospect of Vietnam - US aviation agreement’s negotiating and signing progress. We look forward to signing the agreement in order to facilitate bilateral commerce, investment and tourism”.
