Nortel Networks was the first to market with a purpose built Layer 3 Routing Switch. In May 2000, Nortel Networks delivered a second generation, Layer 2-Layer 7 platform with the high performance Passport 8600 Routing Switch. Nortel Networks intends to continue significant investments in the Passport 8600 platform and scale down its investment in the Passport 1000 platform. Effective May 1, 2002, Nortel Networks is hereby announcing the End of Life (EOL) for the Nortel Networks Passport 1000 equipment listed below. No new orders will be taken for these products after June 30, 2002. Products scheduled for Manufacturer Discontinuation that are operating in the field today will continue to receive Nortel Networks customer service support for five (5) years after the Last Ship Date [July 31, 2002] at Nortel Networks then-current prices or as described under existing service agreements.
