BOINC Platform News - November 21, 2004

November 21, 2004
We have developed a GUI for the core client. It's similar to the old Windows GUI but is implemented using wxWidgets so it runs on all platforms. It offers new features such as the ability to suspend/resume projects and results, and project-specific web links. It uses a socket-based GUI RPC mechanism, which makes it possible to develop other GUIs, including ones that control many hosts.

November 21, 2004
A new utility, db_purge, allows projects to flush old entries from the result and workunit tables, so that these tables have a bounded size.

November 21, 2004
We have developed a new Windows installer that lets you run BOINC as a service, and that is compatible with the Microsoft MSI framework.

November 21, 2004
The application graphics framework now works on all platforms, including Mac OS X.

November 21, 2004
The message-board system now supports self-moderation.

November 21, 2004
BOINC servers can now use read-only database replicas for increased throughput.

Predictor@Home BOINC News - 17-21/11/04

11/21/04
Work on the new Predictor@Home system has almost completed. To be able to take all of our data from the old system to the new one, we will shut it down for maintenance. The next time you'll be reading our forums will be on the new servers :-) Looking forward to see you all back then!

11/17/04
Work on the server is advancing very well and we think (no promises) that we might have predictor up and running again by the end of the week :-) Keep you updated...

Predictor@Home BOINC News - 11/13/04

11/13/04
We're (kind of) back on track: the proposal has been submitted and we are currently working to install boinc 4.x on our brand new servers :-) We have already run into some problems during the compilation of the code since the boinc dev team seemed to have changed quite a bit and we haven't been completely in sync with them lately. But we are confident that we will have the system up and running in a couple of weeks (hopefully less if everything goes smoothly) and that we can make the cut-over from the old to the new servers. We will start out with a new workunits and results table in the database, but all of our user, host and forum data will be kept. Thanks a lot for all of your patience. We hope that not too many people have given up on us!
