Help with Searches
To make your searches at Charity Village® more effective, here are a few basic rules about how our search engine works. These tips apply only to our site-wide search engine. There are additional restrictions when searching for job openings, volunteer opportunities, and event listings.
- Consecutive words in the search box are treated as a phrase. For example, keying in executive director will only return documents with the phrase "executive director" in them. It won't return documents with phrases like "the director will report to the executive committee."
- To find multiple words in a document, use boolean operators such as AND, OR, NOT or NEAR. Examples:
To Search For Example Results Both terms in the same page fundraising and Ottawa
Or
funding & sources
Pages with both the words funding and sources Either term in a page director or manager
Or
director | manager
Pages with the words director or manager The first term without the second term Vancouver and not Island
Or
Vancouver & ! Island
Pages with the word Vancouver but not Island Both terms in the same page, close together communication near project
Or
communication ~ project
Pages with the word communication near the word project
- Use the wildcard operator (*) to find words with the same prefix. Example: fund* finds fund, fundraising, fundraiser, funding, etc.
- If you have any other questions about conducting searches, don't hesitate to ask us by sending e-mail to: help@charityvillage.com.
