2004-12-01 Bernd Blaauw has posted the FreeDOS Beta9 (Service Release #1). ISO image or 1.44MB boot floppy image. Get it here.

2004-08-09 The FreeDOS 1.0 To-do list got updated a bit: the list of errorlevels is now available in English language and there is a list of bugs for which more feedback would be helpful. Note that some items were moved to the Post 1.0 To-do list.

2004-07-10 The folks at FindOpenSourceSupport.com have created a directory of individuals and companies that offer consulting and contract support services for Open Source Software - including FreeDOS. (If you already provide support for FreeDOS, you may want to create a support profile at ayamon.com so you can be added to the directory.)

Warning: ASUS motherboards and FreeDOS! See Technote211.

NewsForge article about FreeDOS
    jhall1 - 2005-01-31 05:39
Several people have sent this in: there's an article on NewsForge about using FreeDOS as your workstation OS. That's right, FreeDOS as your primary operating system! Lee Spain has a great writeup. From the article: "FreeDOS allows anyone to run MS-DOS applications without relying on Microsoft. You have to love that kind of independence!" http://os.newsforge.com/os/05/01/20/1923226.shtml?tid=16

New FDAPM: Clock update after SUSPEND
    jhall1 - 2005-01-19 08:09
Eric Auer has posted a new version of FDAPM. "Hi, I have improved FDAPM. Version 18 Jan 2005 now updates the clock (timer tick) to the real (RTC) time after a SUSPEND or PURESUSP. On systems where this has a real effect, a pretty-printed message like '... 45.6 minutes' about the amount of the clock adjustment is shown." Available at http://www.coli.uni-sb.de/~eric/stuff/soft/

V2.0 UDMA2 posted
    jhall1 - 2005-01-09 08:41
Jack R. Ellis wrote: "After much advice and testing by Bernd Blaauw (many thanks Bernd!!), I am happy to release V2.0 UDMA2/UDMA2S and V7.5 UDMA/UDMAJR, with the following changes: A bug in running the read-tests is fixed, a new /S switch enables the UDMA2 local-stack in "DMA only" mode for people who need it, and (the BIG news!) a new /L switch in UDMA2 and UDMA2S allows these drivers to run with the UMBPCI upper-memory driver!! For more detail about /L and /S, see the V2.0 README file." http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/dos/udma/devel/

New HIMEM+EMM386
    jhall1 - 2005-01-05 08:40
Michael Devore writes: "Uploaded to ftp://ftp.devoresoftware.com/downloads/emm386 are the files emmx13d.zip, EMM386/HIMEM mostly executable package, and emms13d.zip, EMM386/HIMEM mostly source package. This HIMEM release fixed a bug in the recent HMAMIN option and added support for a new INT 15h function. Additionally there was at least one purely cosmetic feedback fix. EMM386 corrects a problem in FRAME=NONE. Both programs had their copyrights updated for 2005. EMM386's parsing for FRAME=NONE would misbehave depending on where it was placed in the CONFIG.SYS ... This was fixed. HIMEM's HMAMIN option stored its value in the transient portion of HIMEM ... Oops. (Fixed) HIMEM XMS info was internally rejiggered to properly add support for INT 15h, function 4309h, Get XMS Handle Table. Recent versions of MEM, which support this API call, report calling the function and seem to like it just fine. Use of function 4309h should allow less arduous future recoding of EMM386 to apportion EMS, VCPI, and XMS from a common memory pool as a planned enhancement. All in all, a fairly minor release upgrade." Also available at http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/dos/emm386/

UDMA2 version 1.9
    jhall1 - 2004-12-18 07:31
Jack Ellis writes: "As there have not been any further suggestions regarding UDMA2 and the smaller UltraDMA drivers, version 1.9 fixes the last remaining "minor" problem (DRQ return code is now 080h, not 060h), and these drivers may now be considered "mature". As always, if there ARE any reported problems, or suggestions that will make the drivers of more value to the FreeDOS community, feel free to contact me." V1.9 UDMA2/UDMA2S and V7.4 UDMA/UDMAJR have been posted at http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/dos/udma/devel/
