One purpose of this page is to provide a comprehensive list of two-year colleges in the United States. It includes community colleges, technical colleges, junior colleges, branches of four-year colleges which focus on associate degree education, and accredited two-year proprietary schools. Another, equally important purpose of this page is to encourage two-year colleges to take full advantage of the capabilities offered by the Internet. By sharing information, seeing what other institutions are doing, and learning from each other, we can all move to a higher level of achievement.

Two year post-secondary educational institutions offer certificate programs (less than two years of work), professional technical programs (terminal associate degrees), and transfer programs (Associate of Arts and Associate of Sciences degrees). Depending on the source (and whether or not you include proprietary schools), there are between 1,100 and 1,500 two-year colleges in the United States. This page attempts to list all of these institutions, with links to those that have web pages or gopher services.

This page is a significant work in progress. There remains much work to do. As you will see when browsing the list, there are some states which need to have additional colleges entered into the list. This work will be accomplished as time and energy permit. Your comments and suggestions are essential... and are greatly appreciated.

Associations and Programs

The League for Innovation in the Community College

The League for Innovation in the Community College is a non-profit educational consortium of leading community colleges organized to stimulate innovation and experimentation in all areas of community college development. Founded in 1968 the League serves as a catalyst, project incubator, and experimental laboratory for community colleges throughout the United States and Canada.

The Alliance for Community College Innovation (ACCI)

The purpose of the alliance is to make innovation a continuing priority on the agenda of community colleges. Members of the alliance are involved in reviewing and exploring current issues through publications, conferences, and projects.

National Community College Chair Academy (NCCCA)

Created in 1990 for the purpose of advancing academic leadership for community & technical college chairs, deans, and other instructional leaders, the Academy was formed in direct response to the acutely limited leadership training opportunities for community & technical college department and division chairs. The Chair Academy focuses on preparing these academic leaders for their dual role as manager and administrator on the one hand and faculty member/advocate on the other.

Association of Canadian Community Colleges

The Association of Canadian Community Colleges is the national voluntary membership organization created in 1972 to represent colleges and institutes to government and industry, both in Canada and internationally.

Project EASI

EASI (Easy Access for Students and Institutions) is a collaborative effort among a diverse group of government, business and education leaders, initiated by the U.S. Department of Education, to reengineer the country's postsecondary financial aid delivery system.
