Hang gliding and paragliding are amongst the youngest air sports, and allow to foot launch and fly like birds, silently and free. Since the early days, cross country flying has allowed pilots to push back the limits. Current hang glider wings have brought the straight distance record beyond the 500 km barrier (335 km for paragliders). As a comparison, the 500 km straight distance mark was reached by gliders in 1936.
