Rebecca Brown & the Austin, Texas National Poetry Slam Team!

Rebecca hosts these rockin' poets, stopping in on their way to the National Poetry Slam Finals Competition in Portland. The team includes the fabulous Hilary Thomas, veteran of the Lollapalooza Texas Slam of 1994; the fantastic Danny Solis, boasting performances with folks like Nikki Giovanni and Marge Piercy; the far-out Wammo, last year's second place winner in the Nationals who has been part of the MTV Spoken Word Tour; and the sorely-missed former Seattlite Phil West, a musician, journalist, and prize-winning poet. Joining the festivities will be Sean Nelson, frontman for rock band Harvey Danger and Slim Moon, co-founder of Kill Rock Stars and a rocker in his own right. Be there.

Austin Poetry Slam Team Wammo, Phil West, Hilary Thomas, Danny Solis, and team coach Mike Henry took their war of the words all the way to the 1996 National Poetry Slam in Portland, Oregon in August where they finished fourth in the team finals. Wammo went into the individual finals (top six out of an eligible field of 120), where he placed fifth. In our book, they're all winners.
