An” American Idol”-themed animated spoof, a new alternate ending and a four-disc “Shrek” collector’s set highlight DreamWorks Home Entertainment’s Nov. 5 DVD rollout of Shrek 2 ($19.95 DVD, $15.95 VHS).

The film earned more than $439 million in theaters to make it the No. 1 movie of the year, the biggest-grossing animated movie ever and the third-biggest grossing film in history.

The DVD will include the brand-new "Shrek" animated feature Far, Far Away Idol, which incorporates the likeness and voice talent of “American Idol’s” Simon Cowell boasting a medieval-styled black T-shirt as he joins Shrek and Fiona as a judge in a singing competition in which favorite characters from the films participate.

And the competition goes on from there. Via a link to DreamWorks’ interactive Web site, viewers can participate, too, casting their votes for their favorite singers and tracking other votes to see who will be the ultimate Far, Far Away Idol.

Characters from Shrek 2 — like Fairy Godmother, Queen Lillian, Donkey, Prince Charming, Puss In Boots, The Gingerbread Man and Shrek himself — featuring the original voice cast, serve as hosts of the different animated menu screens on the DVD. They will guide viewers through extras like the DreamWorks Kids Section, which features “Shrek’s Music Room,” through which kids can skip right to the film’s music scenes; two set-top games; DVD-ROM activities; and a “favorite scenes” section organized into five categories: “Gross Out,” “Shrek & Fiona,” “Puss In Boots,” “Donkey” and “Laugh Out Loud.”

Other special features on the loaded disc include the featurettes “Technical Goofs,” “Meet Puss In Boots,” “Meet the Cast of Shrek 2,” “The Tech of Shrek 2” and “The Music of Shrek 2” as well as two audio commentaries — one with directors Conrad Vernon and Kelly Asbury, and the other with producer Aron Warner and editor Mike Andrews. Also included is a sneak peek at DreamWorks’ upcoming animated film, Madagascar.

The list of extras gets even longer, with Shrek: The Story So Far, the four-disc set, priced at $40 MAP that includes both theatrical “Shrek” movies; Shrek 3-D and a bonus-features disc.

The bonus disc offers a Puss In Boots music video, the featurette “Learn How to Burp With Shrek and Fiona,” a making-of look at the “Far, Far Away Idol” spoof, a featurette on dubbing the film for 31 different languages and the featurette “Learn to Draw Shrek, Donkey and Puss In Boots,” with drawing lessons from real DreamWorks animators.
