MY DISCO
Three
piece angular punk rock formed in the Melbourne summer of 2003.
After the release of a limited cassette and two live performances,
the band took a six month hiatus.
Released the Collapse Of An Erratic Lung 7inch in November of 2003
on their founded label Crashing Jets. Recorded live to 1inch analogue
tape in a brunswick warehouse, the three songs are indicative of
the bands raw and agitated sounds. Their ideas on structure and
form are distinct, the recording is honest and captures the harsh
and rigid sounds that is renowned in their live performances. Neil
Thomason engineered the entire mess. Numerous tours of the Australian
east coast were undertaken in support of the single.
The Language Of Numbers EP was released in September of 2004 - again
on the Crashing Jets label - and is available on both CD and 10inch
formats. Five songs recorded in what was once an old radio station,
the band again recruited Neil Thomason as engineer. The songs continue
to explore texture and time, furthering the bands ideas on non-linear
structure and their musicianship, when compared to previous works.
In support of the release, an extensive tour of the Australian east
coast will take place throughout November and December, including
the Belladonna DIY Festival in Wollongong NSW and the Meredith Music
Festival in Victoria.
In 2005 the band will be undergoing a three week tour of South east
Asia and six weeks in the United States Of America. Plans of another
7inch and an album will also be on the agenda.

GREY DATURAS
The Grey Daturas are a band from Melbourne, Australia. As a band
their unique in the respect that their sound is hard to categorize,
but if one has to be done, they are probably best described as an
improvised / instrumental noise rock band.
Since their incarnation in August of 2001 the Grey Daturas have
been celebrated as one of the loudest and most uncompromising live
acts in Australia. As for their influences, they couldn’t
be any more varied, ranging from such diverse acts as Sonic Youth,
The Stooges, Earth, John Coltrane, Cluster, John Cage, Dark Throne
and 70’s no-wave and post punk.
In the beginning, the Grey Daturas began by improvising live scores
to 16mm film projections, however since losing their permanent film
projectionist in 2002, the band has evolved into an entity entirely
of their own, and now generally performs with out the help of a
Cinematic setting.
As a band, the Grey Daturas refuse to use structured arrangements
or rehearse, as they feel it becomes all too restrictive. So being
the case, there live shows are where they are best represented,
and I might add, that no two shows are ever alike. “It’s
basically impossible to replicate the same show twice as when we
play it’s all primarily improvised”. Whether it’s
recorded or live, the Grey Daturas aim to create the most ear blistering
and earth shattering art rock possible. For them, pushing their
musical capabilities at maximum volume is their main priority.
Originally a three-piece comprising of multi-instrumentalists Bonnie
Mercer (guitar), Robert MacManus (drums / guitar) and Robert Mayson
(bass / drums), the Grey Daturas have recently announced the addition
of a fourth member to their line-up, Dimitra Burolo (guitar / bass).
Whilst the Grey Daturas have played with many guest musicians over
the years, the addition of a permanent fourth member will now allow
them to effectively explore there new rhythm heavy directions.
The Grey Daturas have released two mighty albums since 2001, the
first being a self-titled CD on Black Mountain / Sonic Advisor (2002),
and the second being the newly released album "Dead in the
Woods" through Crashing Jets (2004). They have also released
two live 3" CD EP’s on Diagnosis DONT! Recordings. Later
in 2005 these two EP’s are scheduled to be reissued on vinyl
by the Italian record label Qbico.
Touring has always been a main focal point for the Grey Daturas.
They recently completed an Australian tour promoting their new album,
and will be hitting the road again in February for another national
tour, including shows with ISIS. From there, the Grey Daturas will
embark on their first overseas tour, visiting Japan in April / May,
and then U.S.A in May / June. There all set to tour there asses
off with a view to releasing both albums overseas.
