Palace moves to cool media speculation over Diana

ONE of the sources of the Diana conspiracy industry is a shadowy American cult allegedly once linked to Mohamed Fayed.

It is waging a media campaign against the Royal Family, accusing the Queen of ordering the assassination of Diana, Princess of Wales. The group is led by Lyndon H LaRouche, 76, a cranky economist, convicted felon and publisher of a book that accuses the Queen of being the world's foremost drug dealer.

Ever since the fatal crash, or "ambush" as they call it, the cult has published theories in its magazine, Executive Intelligence Review, and newspaper, New Federalist. The motive for the supposed crime was to forestall an engagement between the Princess and Dodi, lest a Muslim become stepfather to the future king.

It is a mystery how the LaRouche movement is funded. The cult recruits disaffected members of wealthy families, but there have also been suspicions of contract work for clients. Executive Intelligence Review has had links with Mohamed Fayed in the past, according to Francesca Pollard, a former operative for the Fayed security machine.

In an interview with The Telegraph she claimed that she helped to set up a visit to Britain in 1990 by two reporters for the magazine. She said they had been brought over to write an investigative report aimed at discrediting Tiny Rowland, Mr Fayed's longtime business rival.
