PAGADIAN CITY -- The City Council here is contemplating on phasing
out tricycles in favor of four-wheel mode of public transport.
Councilor Rufino Amor, chair of the Committee on Transportation,
said the Council is now contemplating on the change of the city’s
public transport following complaints from both the private and
public sectors, on the noise pollution brought about by tricycles.
But Amor acknowledged that the implementation of the proposal
would not be easy because they have to consider the livelihood of
about 2,850 drivers who will be directly affected.
Ex-oficio Councilor Sultan Abdul Marcaban made the proposal,
citing the “unbearable effects” of noise pollution.
Marcaban, who admits suffering a slight hearing problem due to
noise pollution,
challenged colleagues to act on the proposal without delay.
Dr. Edgar Legaspi, an ear-eye-nose-throat specialist confirmed
that about 90 percent of the people in the city are one way or
another suffering from hearing problems due to the noise emanating
from tricycles. |
