MIDI Files of Classical and Recorder Music

(1) The sound module
The MIDI files presented here are based on the instrument map of SC-88 (Roland). In general, you can enjoy higher quality sounds using modules of upper classes such as SC-88Pro and SC-8850, except for the sound of Recorder. Please keep in mind that musical expressions intended may not be reproduced faithfully by soft-synthesizers or other sound modules.

(2) To the guests who use a Roland sound module (of GS type)
For the purpose of getting better consonance, some of the files include controls to tune a sound module of GS type differently from the ordinary 12-tone equal temperament. At the end of these files, a control message is added to restore your sound module. You can also restore it by simply playing the following file; gsreset.mid. The temperaments adopted here are pure intonation, Mean-tone, and the Optimum temperament. The last one is what Makoyan has introduced tentatively.

(3) A simple check to see whether or not your sound module is of GS type
Play the following file; gscheck.mid. You will hear the scale in C major twice. If the first one sounds oddly, your sound module is of GS-type, and the tuning controls are applicable. If you do not recognize difference, please ignore the statement in(2).

(4) Copyright
Makoyan produced all the midi files on this page; You can download and enjoy them, but refrain from the secondary distribution without permission, except for the case that  you use them at a classroom for educational purpose. Please write to me when you wish to use the file(s) as background music of your web page.
