Somerleds sister was married to Malcolm MacHeth, Earl of Ross,(unable to find her name.)Somerled rose in rebellion with the sons of MacHeth in 1153,Malcolm MacHeath at this time was in prison. The chronicle of Holyrood records this rebellion."On the 6th of November,Somerled and his nephews, that is to say, the sons of Malcolm (MacHeth), having taken to themselves many associates, rebelled against King Malcolm (IV)and caused grevious disturbances over the greater part of Scotland."Somerled did have a daughter, her name was Bethoc (Beathog),she was a religious woman and a black nun,a prioress of Icollumkill(Iona).Bethoc also founded the Teampall Trionaid (chapel of the Holy Trinity) at Carinish on North Uist.Returning to the Earl of Ross,MacHeth was released from prison in 1157 and made Earl of Ross,a position he held until his death in 1168.Hope this is of some help,Kind regards Steve.
