Some Globe and Mail customers in Ontario were unable to get their newspaper Thursday morning due to a labour protest which occurred overnight at the Transcontinental printing plant in Mississauga where the newspaper is printed. The protesters were picketing Bell Canada. The Globe and Mail is a division of Bell Globemedia, which is part of BCE, the parent company of Bell.
In order to ensure that Globe readers have full access to the contents of today's newspaper, The Globe has made the entire contents of its online news site, globeandmail.com, available for free for the day. Usually columnists and other select content are available only to online subscribers.
"The daily read of The Globe and Mail is very important to our customers and we want to ensure that they have full access to the editorial content they depend upon every day," said Phillip Crawley.
The Globe and Mail will credit the account of any subscribers who did not receive their paper Thursday.
