Sounding Rockets

ISAS now has five types of rockets which are always launched from Kagoshima Space Center. One is a satellite launch vehicle, the M-V, while the other four types are sounding rockets: SS-520, S-520, S-310, and MT-135.

Together with their predecessors since the 1950s, these rockets have supported the tremendous progress in Japanese space science by responding to the demands of space science of the era.

On October 1, 2003, the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) was integrated into the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and became the Space Science Research Division of JAXA. In this reorganization, the names of organizations and facilities were changed. In this website, the names of the organizations and facilities are provided as at the time of the release of the article.
