sonicunion.co.uk - do beautiful things with noise |
Welcome to SonicUnion.co.uk. Here, you can get your hands on articles and reviews written by real music fans and, if you feel that you're the creative sort, you can write some of your own. Discuss anything from band promotion to problems with your amp. Bands can get their own forum, you can meet new people and set up a band for yourself... Anything is possible; this is the music community that Scotland has been waiting for.
Feel free to just have a look around and get used to the place. When you feel ready, go to our forums and register so you can use your experience to contribute.
Get writing! Since the site is, once again, trying to get off the ground, we'd really appreciate any input whatsoever - so get writing reviews, articles and anything that comes to mind! We're also currently looking for some dedicated people to join the SonicUnion.co.uk team. If you think you're up for the job, then take a look at this article. We really need your support to make this community work, so please have a look around and have a go at writing reviews and articles, submitting your gigs to our calendar and get discussing whatever's on your mind!
Cheers, AC

Suffering from the rather unfortunate, while admittedly entertaining, disposition of having one of the most minpronounced names in the modern Jazz scene, Moishe's Bagel are nonetheless adored by their loyal fan-base. Compounding influences from almost every corner of the globe, the initially confusing name may just be a perfect fit; with an undeniably varied and eccentric style, Moishe's Bagel soothe their audience with dulcet tones before throwing them into a spasm of dance with exhilerating cigarette-wielding melody.

Chris Gorman - Glasgow Barfly on the 20th August
This was probably the busiest gig I’ve seen in the barfly in Glasgow, it was actually almost full and rightly so with the hype surrounding Mr Chris Gorman lately. Rumours of recent A+R interest from certain respectable labels simply added to the atmosphere on the night with everyone (myself included) eager to see if he lives up to this hype. Ever since I heard Chris at an acoustic night a few months back I have loved his music, I was totally blown away at the time by what he could do with just a piano and his voice, and tonight was no different.
This gig was his first outing with his newly acquired band, featuring members of Belial project, Little hait and ex-Emberfaller petey. This being the first time they were all in the same room!

Despite seeing Poor Old Ben perform live on several occasions, including the Greenbelt Arts Festival last year, they are always able to provide something fresh and eclectic. Poor Old Ben were set to take GB04 by storm and it would most definitely appear that they did.

Walking into the auditorium the first thing I noticed was the atmosphere. Sauntering in half way into the opening song, I was greeted by hundreds of people lying on the ground absorbing the dulcet sounds of Mr Witmer's vocals and delicate strumming.

So, you’ve finally reached such a high level of musical godliness that you are on the trail for a recording contract. You have the talent, the honesty and everything else that those guys in A&R are looking for. You’ve been hand-picked and all you now have to do is discuss contract details. Sound easy? Unless you’re sure that the record label that you’re about to sign part of your musical career away to is honest and, of course, generous, then you should think again.

Record Labels are companies. As such, they have a specific structure and specific methods for business. These structures and methods determine how your demo will be scrutinised and how the company will work with you. By having an in-depth knowledge of the main aspects of record label organisation and the approaches used then, hopefully, you will be able to use this to your benefit.
